I was told that my DPF would have to cause 'significant imparement to truck operation' before Ford would replace my failed DPF. To me this means, go away and leave us alone until your truck leaves you stranded on the sides of the road.

My problem started at 2500 miles. I can clean my tailpipes and within 100 miles they are black with soot again.

Not pleased at all with the DPF on our 6.4s. When I was shopping my new truck, various dealerships said 'with the new emissions system the tailpipes should stay clean on the 6.4s and Ford promotional material shows that also. That is not what I am seeing after just 2500 miles.

well, after one and half days, i got my truck back. service advisor said the techs spoke to ford's hotline and performed diagnostics as per symptom chart 8 in pced. all tests were good, even with my tailpipes looking like the insides were spraypainted with black paint...............

thanks for everybody's input.

black tailpipe

My 08 has had a black tailpipe since day one. The thing also smokes every time I let off the gas and step back on it. Dont matter if I step on it a little or floor it. Black smoke pours out. I used to regen at aprox 400 miles, but now I'm in the 250-350 range. I now have 67k on the truck. I am feeling like I have lost power within the last 5000 miles. My boost used to go to just about 40 and now it never hits 35. 32 seems to be max and the higher the rpm the lower the boost gage. My dealer tells me no codes no problem and ITS A DIESEL AND THEY ALL SMOKE!!! I was asked to stop bringing it back to the dealer for smoking. We now have another 6.4 and it don't smoke at all????? I dont think I have a cracked dpf because after a regen it runs better for 100 miles. I think something is giving it to much fuel . Low rpm feels like it runs real rich. I'm going to spend the $2000 to extend my engine warrenty to 200k.

I would glady swap my good DPF for your cracked DPF.

If the EPA ever hears Ford saying soot in the tail pipe is normal somebodys gunna get in trouble.

The tailpipes on my Job 3 F450 get pretty black also. Mine goes through a regen about every 250 miles. I have about 4500 miles on it, and haven't been back to the dealership to see if there are any problems or if they tell me it is "normal".
