Re: that is a sweet heffer step on the tailgate!!!!!

That has got to be one of the stupidest options Ford has come up with yet! Ranks right up there with the back seat cup holders in the OBS trucks that your passengers ALWAYS knocked off and spilled drinks out of. Remember the one that went between the legs of the middle rear seat passenger?
I am probably offending alot of you with my reply, but jee wiz, I guess after the Upfitter switch option, Ford was kinda lost for another GOOD idea and let some idiot fresh outa college design this one. I'll bet it sells alot of trucks. Not for me! Glad I bought an '06. It has enough plastic crap on it!

That's the beauty of it being an option. If one doesn't like it, they don't have to have it

Well said! I'm sorry, I just had to blow off some steam. Dang, build something useful like the sidebin toolbox/spare tire area that the late '70's models had.

Upfitter switch options was something that people wanted, and I see it used everyday.

I can see the tailgate step also being something that will be used daily.

I know when I used my truck for work and to haul stuff around. I find that I need to get in the bed all the time. I t would sure be easy with a step like this.

I would find it usefull, but it is just an option of course

Also, It ain't plastic, that is for sure

To each his own I guess. I could use that option probably 50 times per week. It would be a huge asset and would prevent me from having to use up bed space hauling an additional milk crate. But I happen to think crew cabs on a PU are stupid cause the back seat is supposed to be uncomfortable and for tools anyways. That's why they offer variety.

Re: that is a sweet heffer step on the tailgate!!!!!

"One giant step for mankind"

If you use the heffer step when your truck is loaded with the load containment system in place, where do you step when you get on the heffer step? You would have to step up and "over" the containment device railing to get into the bed and that's one giant step from the heffer step.

Re: that is a sweet heffer step on the tailgate!!!!!

Why not just spend $40 to $60 and get an aftermarket step? Lots cheaper than $750 for a tailgate w/step. I did a google search and found no less than about 20 different tailgate step vendors, with prices from $39.95 to $59.95. Yeah, they won't hold 1000 pounds, but I don't weigh that much anyway (at least, the last time I weighed myself )

Re: that is a sweet heffer step on the tailgate!!!!!

Have you guys noticed that you cant slide anything over the tailgate and into the bed now? Thats the only reason I dont like it. I have to slide crap on my gate all of the time.

Re: that is a sweet heffer step on the tailgate!!!!!

That's my only concern with it. Kind of makes it hard to slide a pallet of tile into the bed if you have to avoid the tailgate all together. Other than that, I love it. As for the aftermarket options, yeah they're fine, but there is something about a factory integrated part that gets me all excited!

Now I just need to figure out a way to teach my lazy dog to nail the step dead on when jumping up into the bed.(The step pad isn't too big) I'm getting tired of this lifting a "sporting" dog into the bed of my truck!

I never implied the Upfitters were a bad idea. I posted "GOOD idea"!

I guess some people don't think I am entitled to my opinion. Oh well, that's what I think about this step crap and I'm stickin' to it!
