Have you guys noticed that you cant slide anything over the tailgate and into the bed now? Thats the only reason I dont like it. I have to slide crap on my gate all of the time.

Two things:
-- It's an option, right? So if this is an issue for how you use your truck, you can just not get it. Which stinks, but if it makes the truck unusable, what choice do you have...
-- It looks like they *tried* to inset it fairly well into the tailgate, and have nubs that help guide stuff over the part of it that is raised up above the flat tailgate level. It will be interesting to see how much effect it really has on sliding heavy stuff into the bed.

I never implied the Upfitters were a bad idea. I posted "GOOD idea"!
I guess some people don't think I am entitled to my opinion. Oh well, that's what I think about this step crap and I'm stickin' to it!

Re: that is a sweet heffer step on the tailgate!!!!!
My Question for you guys that actually saw the gate at the Texas State Fair is:
Is the tailgate itself any stronger than the wimpy tailgates that we have on our trucks now?
I am in the wholesale construction business, and several of my customers have bent gates. Course this is on other brands than Ford also, so I know its a industry wide problem...I have hunted everywhere for replacement solid gates, but all anyone makes is replacement flow through gates. Those are fine for 5th wheels, but have been proven not to be efficient for the airflow on our late model trucks. Plus who wants a holey tail gate to work off of.
I have actually thought about starting a company making aftermarket tail gates for people who use their trucks for real work.....

It's overkill, but your average lift gate (Tommy Lift, etc.) solves that problem and adds a whole bunch of functionality, right? It's just that when you mentioned solid tailgates, I picture a slab of steel, and when I picture a slab of steel as a truck tailgate, my mental picture has diagonal stickers on it that say "Tommy Lift" !

Re: that is a sweet heffer step on the tailgate!!!!!
The problem with a tommy lift is that it is bulky and covers most of the whole rear end of the truck. Also most folks don't need the functionality that a tommy lift provides. Sure its great for lifting things like engine blocks, or 55 gallon drums, but it gets in the way and is over kill for most things. Lets not even talk about the 400 pound weight, or the cost.....Most folks that actually work out of their truck just need a sturdy tailgate like they used to be in the 70's....

Re: that is a sweet heffer step on the tailgate!!!!!
I don't know where the $750 price on the tail gate came from, or if it was just an estimate. But I can tell you, on my 2000 truck, I had the tailgate stolen(forgot to lock it) at the fair. Replacement from Ford was $1100. I did finally find a used one for less that wasn't in too bad of shape.
