i read the post and article about the lawsuit but my truck is being stupid and im in a REALLY bad mood, im going to my dealer tomorrow to order an 08 but is that useless i mean if they arent sending any powerstrokes then ordering one doesnt solve my problem, i dont mind waiting a little bit and all but i want to order it to know that a solution is on the way, what are the terms of the legal situation with navistar and ford? are they still allowed to build them while they come to an agreement? thanks in advance... also see my post in 6.0 about my current problem if you can help. "CODE HELP ASAP" thanks again

I'm ordering mine on Monday as well. Remember just because you order doesn't contractually obligate you. If you don't buy it someone else will. As far as your order being a contract I doubt that is the case. Once you sign ownership paperwork your contract is that the truck you just bought has the features/options it says it does. Until then it's just an order.
If Ford is actually shipping these trucks for sale, they're being pretty weird about it. The website still lists it as a "future truck" and so on. Obviously they're being ordered, scheduled, and built, but for whatever reason they don't seem to be shipping quite yet. I'm going to be the optimist and hope it's because they're doing extra QC to make sure they get it right this time. Or it could be something dumb like some paperwork hasn't made it through the EPA signoff gauntlet yet.

You can definately order one, but as to when you will get it that seems to be the question. Just ordering a truck though does not put you or Ford under any contractual obligation. Meaning you do not have to take the truck you ordered, also meaning Ford does not HAVE to fulfill your order.
It is known that KTP was idled all of last week and there storage lots are full of trucks that they were not shipping. There was also no guarantee that they would start building again this week.
I would expect if normal order to delivery time is 4-6 weeks, if you ordered one today you would be looking at 8 weeks or more. Also if you plan on ordering the tailgate step that will put your truck on HOLD.

thanks for all the info, whats the deal with the tailgate step. sorry about the earlier message i was refering to ford and navistar, they have a contract to produce engines and put them in superduty... so they are coming right its just a matter of when? or are they talking about not releasing them now?

I doubt that the legal matters between Ford and Navistar will really come into play. As we all know they have had there legal problems before and we have always received our trucks.
As for the tailgate step, for now I am going to say its related to being a popular option (although I do not understand why) and they are just lacking the parts. But I do know about a month back there was a meeting between Ford Engineers, Ford's legal people and a truck equipped with a tailgate step. The reason for this meeting was concerns had arisen about the safety of this option and the possibility of legal actions being taken against Ford by anyone who got hurt while using the step. What the overall outcome was, is currently unknown.

That's interesting... b/c I seem to remember a discussion on this and a couple of other sites how bad an idea that tailgate step was, and what legal liabilities ol' Ma Ford was opening herself up to with it.
Lower the body of the truck and make it more practical -- negate the need for a step altogether. But I guess then people would not feel like they have the biggest, baddest truck around.
We never had the need or the problem with the trucks from the 70's, 80's, 90's, or even the early SD's -- go look at a 99 250SD parked next to an 05 or 06, and you will see what I mean.
I want ground clearance -- which is not affected at all (other than the size of tire that you are able to run) by a body lift kit. The body lift is for looks only. Mine is bigger than yours kinda stuff.
If you are running over boulders, logs, etc, and need to worry about bottoming the bottom of the door out in your pasture field, I would consider that "abusing", not "using".
FWIW, I was at the Auto Show in San Jose, CA a couple of night ago and the Ford rep there said that the public can expect to see these trucks hitting the lots in the next 2 to 3 months!
also FWIW, he said that the "vents" on the sides of the front fenders are "Heat Extractors" lol...
