Three '08's Superduty's at the Washington Auto Show
But they were locked up, could not climb in, nor pop the hoods . All diesel, one 250, one 350 dually, and the 450. About the only thing we could play with was the tailgate step. I did take a bunch of pictures, crawled under them. My impressions, a very nice looking truck, inside and out. Yes very familiar other than the front end, but that is not a bad thing to me. Some observations, Zerc grease fittings throughout the front end, including the ball joints(so glad to see that)greased with some type of red grease, got it on my hands, tailpipe tips don't look bad at all, 450 has nice beefy rear axle, suprisingly not that many leafs to the pack. Bellhousing was dry! I did notice what I think are vibration dampners mounted off of the rear frame rails(much like used in helicopters). Also because I spent a moment talking to the Ford rep, I will also be getting in the mail a $500 rebate check to use to purchase a new Ford(every little bit helps). While at the show, I wondered over and looked at the competition. No Cevhy HD yet, Sat in the Dodge 3500HD and looked under the hood at the 6.7. Doubt many Dodge boys will be crowing about how uncluttered their Cummins is to our PSD's. I could barely see the I6 from under all the plastic, hoses, harnesses. The Dodge just does not look near as good as the SD. I don't understand, people have reported here that the new SD's are showing up on dealers lots, they are taking them out for a spin, yet at the shows, the trucks are still locked up? Why???

Re: Three '08's Superduty's at the Washington Auto Show
I was in Louisville Saturday headed for an RV/Boating show. I had NO idea there was a car show going on at the same time! I sat in a new 350 srw. Man that thing was sweet!
They were having a raffle for a red, white and blue 350 srw. I couldn't resist! 10 bucks for a new f350....no problem!

Re: Three '08's Superduty's at the Washington Auto Show
IF the vehicles at a show are provided by the mfr then they are usually open. At smaller shows, the vehicles often are dealer's inventory or are destined to be dealer's inventory, and they are locked. Opened show vehicles get loads of abuse. Knobs ripped off, cratched seats, spilled food. Would you want to pay top dollar for one that had been through that?

Re: Three '08's Superduty's at the Washington Auto Show
I read somewhere that some of the trucks they were using at the shows were the early test model so the engine is not the final production engine. That is why they will not open the hoods.

Re: Three '08's Superduty's at the Washington Auto Show
Interesting on the zerk fittings et al. I was reading in the preliminary
2008 SuperDuty Pickup SourceBook last night that the F-450 pickup has a
Visteon rear-end rather than a Dana, rated at 11,000-lbs @ground. As there
are many errors and especially F-450 omissions in the preliminary version of
the SourceBook, I wonder if that Visteon is also an error. The front axle was
listed as a Dana-60. Seems odd that they'd use a Visteon on the rear-end
and a Dana-60 on the front end of the F-450 4x4. The F-350 DRW still uses
a Dana-80 on the rear-end. Older F-450 Chassis-Cabs used Dana-80's on the
rear-end.
Sure wish one could get 3.73:1 diffs on the F-450 pickup. With the much
higher torque engine one doesn't need 4.30:1 diffs for hauling a heavy
camper. That's over kill and wastes fuel. Especially with a 6-speeder.
Re: Three '08's Superduty's at the Washington Auto Show
I also noticed a few errors in the source book, too. I really apprecitate the person who posted it here, great reference. I crawled under the '08 F-450 at the show. While I did not see any lables on the axle, it sure looked exactly like the ones offered on the F-450-550 CabChassis. Maybe Ford went with the 4:30 standard axle due to the 19.5 wheels instead of the ones offered on the 250/350. Front axle sure looks like a Dana 60. The F-450 pickup has the nice wide stance to the front wheels like the cab chassis's, not the narrower track like the 250/350.

Re: Three '08's Superduty's at the Washington Auto Show
The rear axle sure looks alot like the axle under my 06 F450 Chassis Cab at work. I'm not totally positive but about 90% sure that it is a Dana S110. I kinda feel limp and ineffective around it.

An 08 was on the lot at Century Ford in Mt. Airy this weekend--an F350 Lariat. Looked real nice. Supposedly, the guy was going to pick it up real soon.
Re: Three '08's Superduty's at the Washington Auto Show
I thought it was a Dana 135 but I could be wrong.
