I know, that is scary! I have tried that stupid octane boost and it was absolutely useless for this tick. This was before I found out that it was base engine related.
We should all ban together and send a huge email to the Ford executives telling them how pissed off we are because of this darn ticking. Maybe that would put some pressure on International and Ford SD Engineers to get this issue solved. I am sick of hearing that random tick everyday....it is driving me crazy.
Just make sure when you send your letter to Ford you don't come off like a crash test dummy...it's cetane NOT "octane".
Unless you're useing the wrong stuff and also putting gas in your diesel

Okay, you are right and I feel like an idiot! This is my first diesel and I am so used to gas engines....but I know that I have been using the CETANE booster and not octane booster! ha ha ha.
Anyways, I have been over 1500 miles since my oil change and I still have the tick. As I reported before, so internet posters reported no tick 1500 miles after an oil change.
Legend or not- some folks have had their "tick" go away using Stanadyne. Maybe their tick wasn't the same tick as yours- I don't know, I have never heard it.

That's a good cure until your doors become misaligned, your hood will no longer latch correctly, your instrument cluster fails, your rear end implodes, your a/c quits, and your fuel pump goes out- all common failures on the chebby's my employer has owned. They switched over to Fords. You will need more help than a little wood to knock on.

It took GM a long time to fix a similar issue on the Duramax.
I've heard the notorius "typewriter" noise on those also, its a different sound than the "tick". Still bites that its not fixed yet. I'll tell ya what, IMHO if it was an issue that the trucks couldn't be sold until it was figured out...it would be figured out. Ford or GM.

You got that right! I am sure they are working on it....very very low priority though. I am anxiously awaiting the "fix."
Not to change the subject or start in on the Ford/Chevy thing, but I know people who drive Chevy cars but when it comes to trucks they rely on Ford. IMO, Ford lives up to "Built Ford Tough" everyday.
When does it do it? At idle for above 2,000 rpm's?

Okay everyone...I am about 2800 miles after my first oil change (when the ticking started). The tick has disappeared at idle but I still have it on deceleration (when the injectors are taking turns shutting down, I can hear it) and when I bring the engine up to 1500-2000 rpm in neutral.
I ran OASIS again and found the same SSM for the ticking and no new updates. What is taking so long I wonder? The SSM was released at the beginning of April. That is long enough to find a solution and run accelerated durability tests. I personally think the fix will be some type of dampner or an oil additive.
Just changed my oil for the second time (10K miles) and the ticking returned. It seems the last 2K miles the ticking had disappeared. I ran OASIS again and still not updates from Ford on a fix.
Question for you guys who notice the "tick" after your oil change. Are you changing fuel filters at the same time? The reason I ask is my current brand of truck is known for an annoying tick too, and it has been attributed to the high pressure common rail injection system. Which you guys now have too. My truck has done it to a greater or lesser amount since day one. I can tell you also that not all of them sound the same. My friends '05 sounds completely different from mine. Different fuels will have a different affect on my truck. I believe it is related to fuel lubricity. If I run high concentrations of bio diesel (>B20)it quiets down a bunch. Of coarse anything higher than B5 is not approved by any of the manufacturers, so if you are going to try that be aware before you do.
