Towing Slowly Up Hills

'08 6.4 slows to 45 climbing up 6% slopes. I think it's computer related as it will just sit at 2600 RPM with 25 lbs of boost. After a while it shifts down producing 3000 RPM but the boost goes down to 20 PSI so it still won't accelerate. On less incline it produces up to 32 PSI.

Ideas?

It's been doing it for a while. I always forget to take it in to the dealer. I'm going to take it in next week.

I'm pulling around 14,000. Boost is only putting out 20-25 lbs when it is going slow.

I'll take it in to Earnhardt soon. If they can't diagnose it they will put a flight recorder on it to see what is going on. It used to pull that load at 55+MPH on the same grades.

My buddy in a 24' motorhome with a V10 towing 1500 lbs can pass me.....

I have wondered if the adjustable pedal was limiting gas pedal travel.......

Well, it appears Ford agrees. They are changing one of the turbos. Of course the body has to come off so I won't see it 'till next week.

It's tough fitting tools in a rental car! I need to haul some doors and cabinets etc. so I'm not enthused about the gas money saved driving a little cage.

You have to pull the body off to change a turbo on these?

Yep, body has to come off. At least we don't have to do that to change the batteries! Real curious to see how they handle the Transferflow wiring.

I haven't been without a pickup in many years and am really suffering withdrawal. I have so many loads to move I'll be busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger.

Got it back, turbo pressures are higher than since new so hopefully it does a better job. I won't know for a few weeks as I won't be pulling in the mountains.

Actually, you don't have to take the body off. Taking the body off just makes it easier and faster (and cheaper).
