I found this by accident. I went to pull my truck in to the garage for the night and inadvertantly put it in 3rd, not drive. Pressed on the pedal...w t f ...did I have the parking brake on...NO. The RPMs came up about 800 before it moved. Put it in 1,2 or drive and no lag. It's like it is slipping or something when positioned in 3rd. Cold or hot, doesn't make any difference.
Before going to the dealer to have them tell me it's common***, I'd like to hear what the rest of you find.
Note: ***common - a term that ford and my dealship like to use. I told them "common" doesn't mean that it's right and not a problem

uhm...i think if you put it in third...its in third...as in, third gear. Like starting a manual transmission off in third from a dead stop. I wouldnt expect anything less than what you described.

Putting it in 3 should not let it progress past 3. It should still start from the beginning...
Any tranny techs out there???

I'm not a tranny tech, but I was an automatic transmission engineer at Ford, and I calibrated the TorqShift for three years.

That's how GM does it, not Ford. All Fords will ONLY use the gear you select. If you put it in 3, it will start in 3 and stay in 3. No shifts. If you put it in 2, it will only use 2.
Read your owner's manual. It should be in there.

I may have been the one that programmed it that way (at least the '05 model year) but I didn't make the decision to do it that way. It's company policy, I just implemented it.
For the record, I like it better this way than the way GM does it. I feel that it gives the driver more control in selecting what gear to use. GM only allows you to limit how high you can shift. I find a lot of times living in a cold area that I don't want to start in 1st gear.

i was just kidding! I'm on the fence about how I like it the first time I did it I accidentally put it in 2nd and almost killed myself pulling out into traffic ( I jumped out of the truck to secure something and when I jumped back in I just dropped it into gear to get going ) like I had done in GM's it took me a minute to figure out what I did
Putting the selector into 3rd. gear should not mean that the truck starts out in third gear. It should mean that the tranny will start in first gear and wont shift past third gear.
