Do you think that this is deliberate. So it will be harder to say "Look as I am driving along this is what it says and instead force you to actually calculate fuel economy with math on a fuel that can be up to 2 gallons difference every time you fuel up?
Or is F***D just causing unintended consequences since they rushing out software without any real testing?

Hi,
When we got tsb 07-17-03 in sept 2007, our avg mpg (hand calc) went from 14 to 12. 12mpg is what we have been getting since sept 2007... and that is by driving like a grandma and trying to keep the boost at 10psi on acceleration. I even fold the mirrors in on highway driving, and keep the ladders in the bed instead of the ladder rack.

I'm thinking about getting this newest flash; I can't imagine the mpg getting any worse... but at the same time I wonder if it's possibe to complain enough and get the original firmware put back on... pre tsb 07-17-03 (but not the original flame thrower firmware )

they dont need a fawking tsb to do a flash. tell them to pull the part number from your trucks computer for its program, and compare that to the most recent part number. god i hate lazy dealers.

Just Wondering

I am beginning to wonder if they really are working on a flash to improve mileage.... I have been told by my dealer that it should have been out at the end of May here we are almost the end of June and nothing. I love the truck, hate the mileage and think Ford should do something about it soon. Customer Satisfaction....

response to driving blind

" even fold the mirrors in on highway driving, and keep the ladders in the bed instead of the ladder rack."

HOW could so many of you let Bobbyc's message go??? folding the mirrors in on a 10,000lb truck at 60mph saves approx $1.27 a year. A savings yes but you lose most of that when you wipe out that motorcycle riding next to you!!

Really that’s right up there with those guys that turn their cars off between red lights and coast in neutral to save gas. absurd!!

After I got back in town the other day from the dealership that flashed the truck, I topped off the tank and reset the AVG dash mpg. The past few days I put 251 miles on it, and just topped off the tank this evening. It took 16.5 gallons, for a hand calc of 15.2 mpg... exactly what the dash was reading as well!

This was definetely not highway miles either. Just my average work driving of the hilly terrain around here... and visiting a couple of our tower sites... slow steep roads. which the truck has been averaging 11.6mpg since sept 07.

I hope it keeps up, I know that 251 miles isn't much to make conclusions this early... but there was a regen the other day on the way home that is factored into this avg as well If the regen hadn't taken place it might have been a little (or a lot) higher.

Way to go ford! (or about time!!!)

What is the TSB #

Did you get a TSB# that we can tell our dealers to use. I have called this last week and they told me that the flash to improve fuel mileage has not come out. I guess they are just getting the info or they are just to damn lazy to look it up for me. I am getting really sore at the dealerships in my area....

Recently, two TSBs have been released regarding fuel consumption issues... The reason there are two TSBs is because an owner notification is included... and, depending on build date, the appropriate owner notification must be included.... In either case, the calibration data will be the same.

Depending on build date, 08-13-02 or 08-13-03 is going to be the "document".

Perhaps some owners are too damned lazy or too damned cheap to find dealers that can fulfill their needs. All the same, it would be refreshing if some of you wieners could give the "attitude" a rest.

lazy or cheap? Or maybe, we have ****ing jobs, and the nearest dealer besides the one in town is over an hour drive. My time off work is valuable. Maybe you need to reset your attitude and stop being such a **** sucker.

Well, stumpy... your arrogance first showed with <they dont need a fawking tsb to do a flash> Yes... if we expect to get paid, we need a fawking TSB number. Without a quoted authority, we cannot reflash squat.... Ooops.. we can - but we will do it for free....

FWIW... I help people shingle their roof, I help them paint their fence/plant their garden/ pour a concrete slab.... These things I do for "free".. I fix cars (and trucks) for a living - I expect to get paid.

I have a job, too... look up - I expect to get paid for doing it. Your time is no more valuable than mine - get used to that idea....

I started my holiday on Friday.... On Wednesday, I have to go back in to work... Why? To fulfill a customers requirements... This is a customer that doesn't display "attitude". You, my friend, could suck sh!t until my three weeks is up.

My customers are happy... you aren't.... Oh, gosh....

BTW.... you got the TSB numbers.... where's the big problem?

odd, my dealer reflashed my truck due to a warranty concern, not because a tsb applied to it...

my father does too, has for 30 years, i know the inner workings of a dealership. my best friend owns a foriegn car repair shop, again, i know how these things are run. I know that you get paid x hours for the job, no matter how long it takes you, and i know that if you do a job not listed on the work order, your recieve no pay for it. However, my dealer explained to me that if a vehicle is under warranty, and is expierencing a drivability issue associated with tuning, and newer flash is out, they will re-flash under warranty, with or without a tsb.

no where did i state one persons was more valuable than another. I stated that i shouldnt be forced to take my truck on a 130 mile round trip just to recieve acceptable levels of service. if you were forced to drive that trip to work on my truck, and not compensated for it, you would be no happier than I.

I didnt display attitude with my dealer until, A) the service manager told my wife, at 8 months pregnant, if she was concered about her oil being 1.5 quarts overful, to drain some out. And then telling me, to my face that 1300 rpms during regen, with my foot on the brake, in drive was normal. Attitude is given where it is due. The dead diesel tech at my ford dealer is very cool. he takes time to show me what he has done to my truck, explain why, and even asks questions about how past repairs are holding up. he gets no attitude, and I even went so far as to speak with the owner of the dealer about him.
And im not asking for TSB's. I dont give two ****s about my trucks mileage.I drive a 3/4 ton diesel on 37's, if i wanted fuel milage i would have bought a prius.
