Grampy, hope you enjoy your vacation, and thank you for coming on to this forum and providing great advice over the years. I and many others appreciate it. Some on here love to ***** and whine, I think that is just their personality. Just be glad they are not your neighbor or relative. I am going to call the service manager this morning to schedule a visit to get this updated programming, due to twice now the idle did not kick down during regen when the brake was applied, plus the hard accel when resume is selected.

CaptSkup,
Make sure the dealer knows that this TSB supercedes last years' TSB 07-17-3, which dealt with the regen fighting the brakes.

Also make sure they have the latest calibrations for this TSB. My local dealer had my truck for an entire day only to tell me "oops we don't have the latest calibrations yet." I ended up driving to a larger ford dealer in the city that had it the next day.

A few here have mentioned that their miles to empty is calculated higher now; I have the 38 gallon tank, and before my dash would get to 0 miles to empty when I actually had 6 more gallons in the tank. Not much, but I think it is just more accurate now and also takes into account the better mpg. I can see it posing problems though if there is no longer a safety margin anymore. Maybe I'll run this tank near dry and see how many gallons I have left when it says 0... if I dare (don't want to get stranded on the side of the road.)

When my guage shows 1/4 tank remaining, I have 8 gallons left of a 38 gal tank. If I am at an 8th of a tank, I have 3 gallons left. If I ever left it go to red, where the light should come on, I would be dead on the road. When I asked my dealer, they said unless they replace the float and pump system in the tank, there is nothing they can do...no calibrations of any sort. But since I am the only one who drives it, I am not going to worry too much.

Grampy...profanity, name-calling, arrogant put-downs, defensive, argumentative, holier than thou attitutde, etc., etc. Nice.

I have no idea who all these "happy" customers are Grampy talks about...The dealership he twists wrenches for must either be the only game in town, or they cater to suckers who don't know any better. Because Grampy's attitude wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes in my shop before I booted him, regardless of how much he can regurgitate from Ford shop manuals. A good mechanic has respect for customers and their prior experiences, and understands their frustrations. He doesn't attack them, take their comments about other dealerships personally, or put himself on some internet crusade to vindicate himself as a Ford mechanic.

Oh, and FWIW Grampy, you don't need a TSB to get paid for doing a reflash.

These flash topics can get confusing.

Is there a build date for this flash were talking about here? Last I knew the latest one for mine was Aug. of 07.

Mine was built Oct. of 07 so I am assuming I have the latest one out.

I haven't noticed a message come up yet when regenerating.

Here is a better copy of the TSB.

Unfortunately it won't help those of us with Job 3 trucks.

It sounds like no more regen at idle. If so, I would guess the only mpg increase will be due to always moving while a regen occurs, rather then sitting and using more diesel.

Gooch... yes you do.... Without a document that "authorizes" a reflash, Ford will not pay.... Gee... how would I know that???? By not getting paid, I guess....

Nice to see you back... even if you are still on your vendetta...

FWIW... I am the way I am.... if you don't like me then don't read me.... I earn my money in the retail world.... My customers live and work in the Alberta oil patch....

I'd love to have a cushy job skimming the government fleets...

So, correct me if I am wrong. I am picking up my new '08 today, I'm guessing it is a job 3 truck (I'll check it for sure in about an hour), so I don't have a reflash available for any fuel mileage problems?

I really could give a rat's ass about fuel mileage. It will be what it is, but while it's still sitting there getting make ready, why not make sure it has all of the latest flashes and recalls taken care of. I was told that all recall notices where taken care of on Friday and Saturday. They said I couldn't take delivery of the truck until it was completed.

So, I guess what I am asking is:

1. How do I know which code I have installed?
2. Should I have the dealer go ahead and reflash a brand new truck with 12 miles on it?

I believe mine doesn't have the latest reflash. What would be the right thing to say or way to get my dealer to do this for me?
