Today I just hooked on my 5500 - 6000 lb Snowmobile trailer I was heading down the road when I got on the freeway I was going 80km hr for about 5 minutes travelling on a level grade, all of a sudden BANG. from under the hood, I had really nowhere to pull over so I went about 1km to the next exit, and left the freeway limping at about 40 km/hr, got to a service road and pulled over.
I let it cool for less than a minute, turned off the engine, opened the hood. The line that exits the intercooler that goes to the engine had popped off. There was quite a bit of oil sprayed under the hood. Now we got a wrench and put this back on and kept on our way. Now first of all, I had my rad changed 3 weeks ago and Im thinking someone mabie had this off and did not tighten it properly. I will be contacting the dealer first thing tommorow as well as I am concerned about any other problems that may occur from this as the engine sucked it lots of dust as it was very dusty where I was. And I want them to fix this and will demand a shampoo to my engine and front end.
I had my radiator replaced about 10000 miles ago and the had torn a hole in the boot that come out of the bottom to the intercooler. I could not get above 10psi of boost and could hear the howling under the hood. I took it to the dealer the next monday and told him what it was and he fixed it in 5 min. I would have them just to a quick check of the engine but I doubt it anything got in it. Good luck to you
Thanks, I emailed the dealer last night, Im sure they will be calling me soon. Man I hate to be a pest but Im starting to wonder between them and this truck im just shaking my head. I may just replace this soon. First the computer, then the Airfilter problems, then the EGR sensor, not even 1 day later the rad, then the steering box and now this. My truck has 30000 km on it and its starting to worry me. I felt better towing with my 02 Duramax with 240000 km on it. I like this truck and enjoy driving it but cant afford all the downtime.
I too had the hose blow off last weekend, and I was wondering if there might be aproblem with the hoses. I got rid of my 6.0 because of it leaving me on the side of the road, far from home. Please keep posted on what is found.
One the the first things we created for the 6.4L was our boot kit. These trucks are making more boost and Ford used the same POS boots that the 7.3L and 6.0L used. My favorite was the STAPLES used to hold the clamps on the boot I had a local guy here that bought an F450 last year and couldn't keep the boots on.
On edit: I looked at your picture closer. Someone took that boot off once before and removed the staples and I can see where one of the staples is broken.

Thanks for noticing this, I told the dealer.
Why would all this oil have sprayed all over from the turbo air lines, this is the line that goes to the engine that brings the boosted air in. And with me driving the truck to a safe area to stop with me and my cargo trailer is the engine damaged and how do I find out if it is. I talked with the dealer today but now Im thinking of calling Ford. Im quite concerned with the future of this engine now.
Driving a diesel and blowing turbo cac hoses is something that will happen to everyone at some point. The oil is from the crankcase vent system. The charge air is oily. The inlet to the engine did run without air filtration for that short run, but like I said, we've all done it before. Did you do damage? Probably not. You weren't driving on a dusty road or anything. Could you have sucked somthing in causing damage? Of course, anything could happen. However, I don't know of any easy way to determine if you did or not. But, then again, that's what warranties are for. Make them make note and you keep good records on your end and you'll probably be in good shape.
I doubt you'll get far with an engine replacement with Ford over a blown cac hose. They would likely compare that to replacing the truck because you blew a tire. They'll put a new hose on and send you on your way.

You've got nothing to worry about. I would recommend getting a good boot set like Bob has. The dirt is really nothing, I've seen company trucks with 7.3s driven around with the filter box unclipped to delay replacing the filter.
Thanks, I will look into these. Im bringing the truck to the dealer on Wednesday, they will fix the hose for now. Please give me a link to the site. I am having some issues right now though, it takes quite a bit to get the turbo gauge to register anything and the truck is sluggish so who knows. Since the dealer possibly may have not of tightned the clip properly is that there issue or Fords, this is when they changed the rad, they had that taken apart. In Alberta truck sales are crazy the dealer has 1 diesel mechanic and 5 trucks lined up for repairs, there too busy and the quality service has gone down hill.

It is possible you still have a boost leak. Check all the boot connections and make sure don't have another one loose.
I had this happen on my 6.0 once while towing my 5r, and the best way to fix it is an old trick I learned years ago from mountain biking. Clean the areas real well with alcohol. Then get some hair spray (brand doesn’t matter so cheap stuff is fine) and spray both surfaces with the stuff. Be careful while pushing them together as to keep the placement of the flex tube lined up with the slot in the metal tube. The flex tube has a raised rib on the inside that has to sit in the indented grove on the metal tube. At first it looks like the two pieces aren’t all the way together. Then tighten the clamp around the tube ware the two (rib & grove) meet. Once I did this I had many thousand miles without any more problems. I know it sounds a bit silly but it does work!!!!
