I have to travel at all hours for business and often sleep in the cab somewhere for an hour or more inbetween jobs. I leave it running of course to keep temps resonable for comfort. So I see this doesn't qualify for disableing.

I don't have this feature on mine. Either NH doesn't have this or my truck was built before this.

Will this be in any future updates for my PCM? If so how about remote starters maybe they'll be able to over ride this? Then all I have to worry about is some officer ticketing me for resting instead of driving tired.

Question

Doesn't make sense none of the new Dodge Cummins trucks come with the automatic shutdown feature, I don't think the DuraMax has it either

I recall reading that each of the big three has different strategies for emissions control (In addition to the dpf) and some of them don't require the idle shutdown feature. The web site where it was explained was part of a Ford site dealing with the F-650/750 series and the optional Cummins/Caterpillar engines. Unfortunately, the strategy used in the Powerstroke does require the shutdown feature as part of the emissions package. I'd bet it will be required on all of the buses and trucks powered by DT series engines as well.

My understanding is that the shutdown "feature" is based on GVWR. The F250/2500HD-ilk of diesel-powered trucks don't have this strategy as far as I know.

Pretty sad some of the tactics that have to be taken to keep the emissions barons happy

someone can come out with a gadget to raise the rpm for a time to fool the idleing grinch.

I tried to get mine to shut down today but no luck. I put it in park and locked all the doors. Came back 10 min's later but still running. I like this feature as it allows the turbos to cool while I walk away. Did i do something wrong? Just bought my truck 3 days ago. I purchased it in NC but they located it in Virginia and drove it down to me.

Sawtooth, it's a Virginia/North Carolina truck. I think there was a state specific requirement for the shutdown system and those were among the states that did not require the system.

Looks like you'll have to sit in those comfy seats and turn it off with the key. ;-)

Sawtooth you can enable the shutdown. The procedure is in the manual but to reverse it you'd need to visit a dealer for a reflash. Pus the manual says it will drain the battery if left after auto shutdown because the key is still in the hot position.

Ok thanks. Seems like if they tell you to let the engine turbos cool before shutting down they could make that happen automatically. Oh well it was worth a try.
