ULSD, got it... but "ESSO" diesel?

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm a little confused after searching for this. A station on one of my usual routes has 2 physical diesel handles on each of its diesel pump units (the machine with the card swipe, I mean). One is handle labeled "diesel" and the other "ESSO diesel". Both have the ULSD 15ppm tags. Prices were the same. What exactly is ESSO diesel and are we allowed to use it?

It's just a name brand, same as Exxon.

Wow, thats all there is to it? I think I'm kinda let down. I was hoping for something cool. Seems strange to stock both and have the pumps all set up double for it though.

In Canada you will find ESSO stations rather than Exxon.

Sounds more like it is the same fuel from both sides and they just placed the single "Esso Diesel" sticker in one place on the pump. There is a little bit of history with keeping the "Esso" trade mark alive by selling fuel labled "Esso Diesel". See the wiki about Esso.

Re: ULSD, got it... but "ESSO" diesel?

Thanks for the history lesson guys. The wikipedia article had a lot of info. I guess it just threw me off to have a diesel pump with 2 handles, labeled differently (like how the 'gas' pumps have 3 handles for different octane grades).
