Warranty Question

Hey everyone,

Quick story and question that follows:

My dad was pulling an empty 2000lb trailer with his '08 4x4 F250 68-69k miles to Houston from Dallas. About 90 miles outside Houston the transmission started hesitating when shifting into a different gear; holding the gears into higher rpms. Quickly thereafter, it quit shifting altogether and would not pull away from a stop. Cutting to the chase, my dad and grandfather checked the fluid level of the tranny, which was just about empty and saw a film of tranny fluid all over the back of the truck and trailer. The tow truck driver said it looked like the transmission seal and took it the Ford dealer in the next small town.
The question:
Is the transmission covered up to 100k? The Ford house said, 'NO.'
I could be mistaken but I thought the powertrain on these trucks was covered for 100k.
Second:
Is this a common problem with the transmissions on these trucks?
The truck is bone stock.

Thanks in advance.

You're mistaken. Only the engine is covered to 100k.

There had been an issue with the transmission in the 6.0l trucks. A locking c-clip was working loose and after time came in contact with the case causing the case to crack and leak fluid. They only recalled trucks with snow plows. Apparently, the clip can walk when repeatedly shifting into reverse. Take a look at the case for cracks, if you find a seriously cracked part then that clip walked on you. Unfortunately, since the case is cracked you will have to buy a new trans and you will not get the core back and the old case is unusable. This may not be your problem but if it is you have a little history. Search in the 6.0 forum for more information. Let us know what you find out. As said only the engine is covered for 100k and even then only the parts that touch oil....

That problem was unique to the '05 trucks. This one is a 2008.
