Well.... I'm just about to roll 15K on my truck and it has thrown its first check engine light. The truck is running fine, can't tell any difference at all (except maybe the fuel economy is getting worse). I can reset the light..... and it will go off..... you can drive it for twenty miles..... but when you turn the truck off..... start it up again.... it will run a mile or two and throw the light again. The weird thing is.... I have a scan tool.... and it reads "NO DTCs".... no codes? weird.
Any ideas?
I'm gonna take it on wednesday for this... and the fuel tank bracket recall.

The diesels do have a closed system and a loose cap does give a light. It will reset when the cap is on tight.

Well I loosen the cap, I get a light. Tighten the cap and within minutes the light goes off. How can that be explained if it is not sealed?

It may be on the new trucks, but I know older trucks are not like this.I don't own an '08 so I can't argue, but maybe some of you guys that do can elaborate.

I have a job 3 f450 -this weekend the truck went into active regen, came to a stop, the idle was fine, then jumped to 1800 rpms at a stop in gear-i knew what it was doing-even though it has never done that and is not supposed to,lasted about 30 seconds and was fine on the ride home-went to dinner came to a stop-the truck would not accelerate for about 3 seconds then took off-about 2 miles later the engine light came on...also the temp gauge got all out of wack-would read cold-to about 1/8 when fully hot(normally runs about 1/2 on gauge)..stopped and tried cycling the key a couple of times-but still stayed on.
Got up this morning and the engine light was off-decided to take to the dealer anyways-had P2002 Ford Particulate Trap Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1,dealer called back and said ,having to replace the dpf(6000 miles on my truck)...also will update the pcm with the newest flash....no other trouble code for the other concerns-thay are chalking it up as a casuality code,
said i should have it back tommorow
It wouldn't work that quick on a gas truck.... and the diesels still have no EVAP system.... if you want to lend credence to your claim, post the code you retrieve... I would hazard a guess that it has more to do with your transfer tank than anything else....
For the original poster... you would be further ahead with a scan tool you can trust....

It would be interesting if you had a Diesel with evaporative emissions controls and even more interesting if it worked that quickly at setting off the light.
