No new diesel trucks will get good mpg from the factory ever again. Just the way its going to be. All the emission crap is killing it. Keep in mind alot of gas stations are running up to 10% biodiesel and they are not required to tell you on the pump. The 6.4 can only handle 5% max so watch it. Bio-fuel will get much less mpg's. I buy fuel in bulk and my fuel man told me the stations will mix it down for federal tax rebate and not pass on the savings to the customer. I get 1% mix and my fuel price is alaways 10-20 cents under the pump price.

Mine gets 16 to 18 empty and 8 to 9.5 towing a 12k fifth wheel. Varies with winds and speed.

Someone had posted awhile back that the mileage improves once you hit 10,000 miles. I just did hit 10k last week and it was like someone flipped a switch. My highway mileage was at best about 14 before. I drove a mix of highway and small mountain roads (about 100 miles of each) and managed 16.9. Hopefully it stays that way!

Empty, I get 14.5 or so with 50/50 mixed city/highway

Towing (total weight of truck & trailer is 19k) I get around 8.5 if I go 75, and 9.5 if I go 65.

I tow a 15.5k 5th wheel toy hauler and get 9.2-10.2 at 65-70 mph. I had a 12.5k trailer toy hauler and got 7.3 -8.5 mpg at 65-70. Frontal area and load out seem to factor into the mileage equation. I see around 14-15 mpg to and from work that's stop and start with small open sections. On the open road unloaded (rarely) I'll see 16.5 -17.5 mpg at 75. All of my towing is highway via east coast mountains. Long climbs no flats. Not nearly as steep as Pacific NW or Colorado - Montana terrain.

I tow just about every weekend and recently at 15k miles had the trans flushed and fuel filters replaced. I need to say this made an improvement. The truck shifts smoother and the rpm went from 2k rpm at 70 to 1800 rpm at 70. If I hold 2k rpm I'll easily see 75 mph before I catch it. I really think the trans flush was worth the expense.

Job 3 350 srw longbed 5k supersprings 3.73 gears. No mods.

Currently I get between 10 and 11 towing a 25' trailer. No trailer and unloaded: average 15,8.
