15k miles on my truck.... and I've changed my oil myself three times now. Each time, I get exactly 15 quarts out. And I did have the dealership do some other unrelated work. They checked all my fluids (or so they said).... and reported that fluid levels were where they should be.

1 quart too low is probably fine... but I put in exactly what the manual says. :-D

No I drain it all the way. It puts the oil about 1/4" down from the very top. I prefer to run slightly low as to prevent any problems with foaming and it is easier to see there when checking the level. Fifteen would put it slightly over full on mine.

Amazon.com has Mobil 1 Diesel Engine Motor Oil. I ordered 2-2gallon cases of 5W40 since I am not planning on being anywhere near cold climates for the rest of my life. :-)
