im not saying i am going to do this as im not buying a new truck but i can already see guys straight piping these things and how will that affect everything?

At this point, we are unsure.... There will be exhaust treatments in place to take care of both oxides of nitrogen and particulate emissions.... One or both of these is going to be an important factor in fuel delivery (from my understanding) and defeating any of these could, conceivably, drive the PCM into FMEM (failure mode effects management) - this is a preset group of parameters that limits the function of the engine to avoid litigation and/or damage....
There are so many questions being asked that are far to early to be asked.... We have so little in the way of "real world" experience with these engines that anything is going to be pure conjecture....

I think it's mean that you call your 18 year old son Amy.....

So what's wrong with him calling his son AMY?

Ahhh, Western New York humor. Usually shows up in March near the end of winter when everyone has had it with 100+ inches of snowfall. Pancartom is just taking some early practice runs!

Exhaust system will be equipped with multiple temperature and pressure sensors to monitor DPF status. If these sensors are removed the ECU will detect a fault and set codes. Do not know what actual performance issues will result.
With the addition of a DPF the engine can be calibrated for higher particulate emissions than before; this allows engine out NOx emissions to be reduced. Removing the DPF may result in very high black smoke emissions. Some may think that is cool but it will certainly attract unwanted attention.
Not to mention it is a Federal offence as noted above.
I am sure there will be tuners available from the respective companies to either turn off or by pass these sensors, or maybe a company will come up with a new way to keeping your truck legal yet sounds mean, and not like a duracrap

Hmm, can you say OBD II emissions inspections at centralized or decentralized facilities. Thats what these trucks are being groomed to meet, just watch.
Plug the state emission machine into the vehicle. Make sure the MIL has not been commanded on and all the monitors have completed to READY with no hard or pending codes stored.
You fail the MIL status or any monitor not copmlete?? Take out your checkbook if it is not covered under warranty.
(Disconnecting the battery will clear the monitors to "Not Ready" status).

I'm sure that someday in the not to distant future these trucks will have to pass some sort of smog test. So tampering with the particulate filter will send your truck off the charts and hence fail the test. Kalifornia will probably lead the charge, they always do!
I think we are headed toward the day when you either run it the way you bought it or pay thru the nose if they catch you modifying it?

The perf mods for gassers have been available in emissions legal form for several years.
Due to loose control on diesels we have been spoiled with extreme increases from mods. If (when) there is enforcement on diesels, the mods will be way less extreme or WAY WAY more expensive. I would think a new high flow DPF to enable LEGAL increases of 150 HP/200 ft-lbs is going to cost a LOT.
Big gains on gas motors always was costly and now we may have to ante up for big gains on diesels.
Now for my stump speech: if we just disregard the emissions and mod trucks, there will be a day that we or our offspring pay the price.
If tailpipe emissions had to be carried to the curb and hauled off for a fee like garbage, our behaviors would change quickly. Since tailpipe emissions don't show up in our yard or in our house (well someone reading this may live in their garage, this part about "house" may have an exception...) we easily forget about them.
I am 48. I grew up in a time when we poured antifreeze and waste oil in the storm drains. In a little town in NY they spread old transformer oil on roads for dust control. Many industries released byproducts of their manufacturing into creeks and rivers. We learned from those things.
