Re: When "must" the 6.4 to be ready to go

The Van line in AVON, OH is about to shut down for re-tooling here in the next few weeks, if that means anything.

He could tell ya,, but then he'd have to KILL YA!!!!
I know that the GM van had the same issues,, (Dont think there were any fires! ) But they had "Engineering Problems" in trying to get them in, hence GM DIDNT Make any diesel vans for 3-4 yrs after the introduction of the D-MAX.

Re: When "must" the 6.4 to be ready to go

My source says that the 2007 E series will have a 6.0 that is ULSD compliant. The 6.0 may stay in the van for years to come.

Re: When "must" the 6.4 to be ready to go

The answer is that whatever engine is in it, if it is produced as of Jan 1 2007, it must be a low emissions diesel complying with the new standard. No reason to believe that a 6.0 could not be made to pass this standard if equipped with the right hardware. E series 6.0 was already a different animal compared to the Super Duty 6.0.

Isn't the GM Duramax van engine a differently tuned version NOT using the Allison Trans?
I guess you do what you must to meet the competition and sometimes not much more.

Re: When "must" the 6.4 to be ready to go

The 200? 6.0 vans will have next generation EGR and a particle trap. It will be 2008 emmissions compliant. You will not be able to run 500 ppm fuel in it. It will require 15 ppm (ULSD) fuel.

"Vans don't interest me. But hey, thanks, good to know someone is still going to have to suffer with the 6.0."

Well possibly about 10,000 fire departments, airport shuttles, emergency ambulances etc. might have just a slight interest. I guess they don't count.

Re: When "must" the 6.4 to be ready to go

More than that I am sure. But all the ambulance buyers I know are holding their orders. If you think the 6.0 was shaky in the pickup, try a van.

The ones that have to replace fleets, are doing the truck cab and box.

Like I said vans don't interest me, but I sure hope that if I need an emergency vehicle it has a Triton in it instead of a 6.0. Gives a whole new meaning to the term "dead pedal". Richard, find something else to do than pick fights with me. You are no fun anymore, way too serious and spiteful.

Most vans for EMS and Fire are diesel like it or not. Surprise surprise I actually agree with you that I would rather rely on the V-10 rather than the 6.0, particularly the 03's. I think things got a bit better later on than the early 03's.

I'm no 7.3 authority but I think they too had a few early years of teething problems.

Fun now?

[/ QUOTE ] Just for the record, vans had the 7.3 in 03. The 04 did get the 6.0 but it was delayed until about January 04.

Your certainly not, but yes the 94 MY 7.3's were crap.

The better part of 2 years were spent doing warranty straight time work fixing oil leaks and injectors.

Sound familiar?
