Well possibly about 10,000 fire departments, airport shuttles, emergency ambulances etc. might have just a slight interest. I guess they don't count.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ford will not sell a chassis for an emergency vehicle with a gas engine it. If you convert a gas powered chassis to an emergency vehicle, the warranty is void.

Like I said vans don't interest me, but I sure hope that if I need an emergency vehicle it has a Triton in it instead of a 6.0. Gives a whole new meaning to the term "dead pedal". Richard, find something else to do than pick fights with me. You are no fun anymore, way too serious and spiteful.

I'm no 7.3 authority but I think they too had a few early years of teething problems.

[/ QUOTE ]

Your certainly not, but yes the 94 MY 7.3's were crap.

The better part of 2 years were spent doing warranty straight time work fixing oil leaks and injectors.

Sound familiar?

[/ QUOTE ]

Sort of funny.....the 7.3 now is the gold standard and the 6.0 is a POS to some. Regarding the "some" on this site there are a few that had a "true" bad experience but I suspect that there are a few that "always" have a bad experience with everything.

As to the new engine.... well it's not even out yet and the "always" people are already lining up predicting another bad experience. Talk about the half glass empty people VS the half glass full people?

Re: When "must" the 6.4 to be ready to go

Just one point about the 6.0L in any Ford after Jan 1, 2007. Ford can use it IF they are willing to pay the penalty. I don't know what it is but they could do so and pass that penalty on to the buyer or not.

As was pointed out in the van they MAY be able to get it, the 6.0L, where it needs to be by adding a bunch of emissions gear on the 6.0L. Who knows? Time will tell.

I don't understand all this fantasizing about the 6.0L continuing after 1/1/2007. It's done, kaput, gone. They've redesigned the truck with the 6.4L in mind and they won't be bolting 6.0L engines into it.

Well duh, but they'll all have been produced before 1/1/07. All these folks dreaming of ways for Ford to keep *manufacturing* trucks with the 6.0L engine past 1/1/07 are kidding themselves.

Most vans for EMS and Fire are diesel like it or not. Surprise surprise I actually agree with you that I would rather rely on the V-10 rather than the 6.0, particularly the 03's. I think things got a bit better later on than the early 03's.

I'm no 7.3 authority but I think they too had a few early years of teething problems.

Fun now?

Re: When "must" the 6.4 to be ready to go

I don't know how Ford is doing the '07 emissions requirement as far as ending the build date to be complient with the '07 emissions but at Freightliner as long as an engine block is ordered before Dec. 31 it can still be legal. We are building '06's until May of '07 then the sh*t hits the fan. Currently with Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star the backlog for '06 as of Sep. 18 was 85,651 units to build. Do not know if any of this helps.

not sure how ford is with this but my buddy is the genrsl msnsger of the local kenworth dealer they own a chain of the i believe 15 dealerships they ordered 2200 trucks ( for all 15 stores ) in order to get before 07 emission's b/s a big truck down for a day in this area will cost the average owner $2000 / day minimum and no one owns a big truck older than 4 years here due to oilpatch being so darn busy

Re: When "must" the 6.4 to be ready to go

I order trucks for the Kenworth dealer here in Austin. I am already just about out of pre-2007 motors as they are selling so fast. I can still order the MDs though for another week or two.

My factory called last week and offered me a few Class 8 slots in January w/ the pre-emissions motors but when I priced them out they cost 12K more each so I passed!

It's going to be a tough first quarter I beleive.
