Would you trade a perfectly good '03 7.3L for a new 6.4L?
I keep getting incentives in the mail from Ford and am wondering if it would be worth it to trade for a new Super Duty. Other than the side mirrors constantly having issues, this truck is trouble free. 55K miles on the ticker.
Any opinions?

I traded a perfectly good 2001 Extended Cab w/ a 7.3 on my 2008. I have never been sorry I did. It is a great truck with tons of power. It pulls much better than my 7.3 did, and fuel mileage hasn't been bad either.
The 2008 SDs are very nice trucks and seem to have a much better intro than the 6.0s did. That said, a 2003 7.3 with only 55k that is gold and it would be really hard for me to let go of.
I sold my 02 perfectly good at 140k and I regret it. Fuel economy was better and I spent alot more for this one to set it up again with my extras.
But having that said. I figured I'd sell it while it was worth something and didn't need any big repairs like trans, etc. So I got into a new one just about the same options but with $50 more a month and 3yrs warrantee. I've always had a payment. It's like a utility bill. I just have to get up 550 a month.

No I Would Not. I Had A 2000 F-250 7.3 With 253k Miles On It, When I Sold It. Never Should Have Compared The The New 6.4 Trucks. The 7.3 Was The Best Trk I Ever Had.
I say truck for truck the 6.4 out shines the 7.3 in all but mpg, and the diff isnt all that much when you figure in all the extra stuff that the new 6.4 provides. Now that being said if you only have 55K on yours I would keep it till you get more miles on it and ford perfects the 6.4 a little more.
No way dude. Fuel economy is one of the reasons. I i really bet that is. Oil prices are sky-rocketing. __________________________________________________

I have pretty much the same truck as you but with about 20K more miles and suffered the same temptation. I went so far as test driving a 6.4L. It was real nice, had a manual tranny, and that delicious that new car smell But I could just not pull the trigger. Instead, I decided to upgrade mine so it would pull like the 6.4 and save the payments up so I can pay cash for a new one in a few years. I have put in the exhaust and intake so far. Next will be the John Wood valve body, diesel manor gauges, and DP Tuner. I have driven a 7.3 with these mods and it felt as strong as a 6.4. Plus better fuel economy and far less complicated.
Not to pick any fights, but it I were serious about a new truck, I would have a long look at the Dodge megacab with the 6.7CTD. Their new auto with exhaust brake drives very nice.

I am going to be trading in my 02 Standard Cab 7.3L in the next few months. It's not going to be easy, I love that truck, but I need a crew cab. I read the 6.4L forum everyday, and I will until the day I decide to jump in a new Ford Diesel...but I am confident I am going to be getting a truck that is just as good performance wise, and better comfort wise, than my 02.

If the 7.3L is doing everything you want I certainly wouldn't trade it with only 55K on it. I get the offers too but there's no way I'm trading my Dmax with 43K on it and taking a hosing on financing and mpg.
There's no doubt the new Super Dutys are sweet but I'm just not a motivated buyer.

A sensible reply.
I sold my 7.3 to my father in law and he loves it. I don't miss the noise and smoke and would still move to a 6.4 if I had it to do over. My mileage is about 2MPG lower than the 7.3. That freakin' $4.25/gallon is killing me though.

Does anyone but Ford put a manual transmission behind a diesel?
I've got a 2000 F250 supercab w/ manual trans and x-fer case, and would like to get rid of it. ($3000 in repairs in the last 12 months, despite only having 47K miles on it.)
But I won't buy a truck w/ an automatic, and would even be reluctant to buy one w/ an electric servomotor operated transfer case.
