6.4L Upgrades and Aftermarket - EngineUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 2008-Up Super Duty truck with 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.4L Power Stroke engine.
Actually I think you might need to go back and research SCT. They are by no means Generic Programs. They are custom tunes also. You actually call a third party tell them your VIN and what you want and the will design a program for your SCT programmer. SCT and even the Edge Programmers are specifically designed for the 6.4 . Why you would need anymore than 3 programs (Econo, Tow, Perfromacne), well I guess that is your choice. As far as the 580 hp give me a break. You must have more money than well, whatever. You are already taking the chance of really messing your 6.4 up anyway no need to do it any quicker. Unless you are strictly racing your truck no public road driving then I guess go for the spartan. But it just not worth the money. You can do everything you need to do with the SCT (or the Edge for that matter) but again its your money.
You really need to do some research, not just on programmers but on diesel engines too. You are not going to do everything you want with just a programmer. You really should do some mechanical mods to properly acheive the hp gains that Spartan is claiming. I have been mesing with cars and trucks a long time and If all i needed to do was buy a programmer to get all that well, there are alot of people that are doing something wrong!!!!!!
Are you doing the dpf/doc too? Or just the tuner?
What kind of cars do you have or that you have been messing with for a long time?
For anyone who thinks the Spartan alone won't produce, go to youtube and check out the video of the guy with a stock 08' 6.4L that added just the Spartan. He busted a V8 Camaro's ass twice! That was impressive to me!

I don't recall anyone saying it didn't work. It is a programmer and its changing your map on your truck, Just like Bullydog, Edge, SCT etc etc. So there is really know need to see proof. Just go back and re-read my posts. You CAN NOT expect a programmer to be the only means of sole race performance. You WILL destroy something very quickly! In order to trully do race perfromance you need more than just a programmer. You need it all. For the 6.4, 2 new Turbos, a new intercooler, a new radiator, new exhaust, new Intake and this is just a few of the simple things. Most people (not everyone) want 3 types of programs Economy, Towing, (or a combo of both) and a Performance. You can do this with most all Programmers for a very very reasonable price. Spartan is Twice the money and your not doing anything you cant already do with the others. DONT be fooled with HP numbers. Your 6.4 will be a very large boat weight if you use the spartan to its max. Heck it could be a boat weight with any of the others if used at their max settings too. So why waist the money? Why use a sledge hammer to drive a tack in when your thumb does just as good of job and doesn't leave a mark?
Actually anything you hook to a computer to d/l upgrades to you can modify, Even the EDGE. My whole point is that the Spartan is not worth the money. I don't disagree that it may do what it says or what it offers but for the money you can do everything you need with SCT. Even if it did offer GPS, now if it offered autopilot now you might be on to something....

Noone is running an Edge with anywhere close to the hp as Spartan or SCT. They're not even in the same ball park.
We Could all run primer gray steel wheels to "do everythin we need" but I don't see that happening.
The point is Spartan and SCT are nearly the same price if you compare apples to apples or in this case programmer to programmer. The Spartan has a nicer dislay w/ more display options (which in my opinion, makes it worth a little more).

Is having one of these nice, comfortable, capable trucks worth the money? Or would a smaller truck or maybe a compact car be better worth the money? Again, you get what you pay for.

You might need to re-read my post. I did not say the Edge is equal to the Spartan or the SCT. I said "If you can hook it to a computer to d/l new software you can put custom maps on it" They are all mini computers including the edge. If you wanna pay what spartan is asking be my guest. You can do it with the others specifically the SCT. But again "To each his own"
