Question Aftermarket Air Intake Test Data/Comparisons

Does anyone know of testing done on various aftermarket air intakes? I’m looking for data comparing available aftermarket air intakes to see if: #1 – do they “make” a difference; #2 – which one is quantifiably the best product to go with. I was not able to find any information at this site via searched achieves. Thanks in advance for passing any information that would be helpful.

Sincerely,
2008 Gold Thunder

air intake makes no difference. Had mine first before I had my 6-gun and there was nothing.

Only time to get the air intake is if you are gonna go with a programmer, otherwise leave it alone.

I do not have any comparison data, but you can tell a throttle response and mid range power difference with S&B. You can also hear the turbos much better which most people like.

A nother way to go is with a Green Filter drop in witch is how my truck at the time because i would get a p2002 code after a it would regren with my s&b. As well it made the truck loud inside do to part of the ait box being cut out and i did not like it at all if you get a inake i wold say if you to not want a loud drony sound get the banks But the green filter in the stock box works as good as a intake will and i do feal a difference with my truck and it is stock i feal better throttle response and low end power and towing is ware i feal it the most.

Data is important. All you're going to get is people telling you that it has definitely made a difference because they *feel* it, or because they saw what they believed to be an increase in economy. I've always thought of it this way: if Ford thought it was a good idea, they would've given you the option to begin with. There's a reason they didn't give you the cold air intake "upgrade" option.

My guess is that they didn't offer it because whatever increases you get either from fuel economy or performance is offset by the cost of the product itself. :-)

cold air intakes do work, I had a setup on my 03 Mustang Cobra, it made a big difference and I researched one for my 05 Vette and it also made a difference. What I notice is car mags will put a car on the dyno and see what it does with the various manufactured intakes so you will know what works and what is junk. Has any diesel magazine done such a test?

How does any aftermarket performance part company stay in business making parts that dont work?

They rely on the ignorance of the consumer.

I know that selling these products is a big part of your livelihood, and I commend you for defending the companies that help put the food on your table. But 444-4D said it the best. It's all about the ignorance of the customer.

I'm an engineer by trade and I rely on *data* to show that my $50k truck which was engineered to do the job that I bought it to do can be improved by the products you sell. I have no doubt that the products you sell provide some kind of performance enhancement, but without the data, it's difficult to say whether such an enhancement is justifiable.

Customers want data. As a salesman, it's not your job to prove that a manufacturer's product will provide X amount of horsepower more over stock, or that it will provide X percent more fuel economy. And you're never going to get that kind of information because it can't be proven.

That's not to say that the products you sell aren't good. They're great. Thousands of people buy them and put them in their trucks. And they're all happy. That's not the point, though... the original poster wants data. :-)

Send it back, there are alot of problems with the aftermarket ones causing the fault code. I have not had any with the banks, but others have.
