6.4L Upgrades and Aftermarket - EngineUpgrading and adding aftermarket equipment to your 2008 Super Duty truck with 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.4L Power Stroke engine.
Ordered it about a week ago from banks, the guy gave me a decent deal 440.00 with free shipping, just got it on tonight, only took about 45 minutes, the thing that took the most time was taking out the old exhaust, i didnt jack it up so i had to take disconnect the passanger side shock to get it to twist out from underneath, after that the new one was a breeze, did it all by myself no special tools. i fired up my truck it made kind of a wierd noise when i did but i think it was just the exhaust filling up with air. Didnt change the noise very much but i can tell a difference. I only drove about 50 miles and on the lie-o-meter i gained about a mile and a half to 2 miles per gallon. I'll update with pics and mileage after a full tank.
The stock exhaust is a wide open, non baffled 3 1/2" pipe, so there's just no way. A DPF back exhaust is nothing more than a fancy tail pipe. All of the fuel robbing damage happens before the tail pipe, so there is nothing at all to be gained after the DPF. No fuel mileage and no EGT relief.
What it is, is marketing and a very nice looking pipe.
Not enough to create any performance or fuel advantages.
But, It does look nice,
Hey, new exhaust is as good of an investment as any upgrade. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but some of the claims these companies are making insults the intelligence of the average Joe..

Actually, Banks made no such claim. They claim to lower "tailpipe temperatures as much or more than stock while simultaneously improving flow and cutting backpressure up to 47%."
Nothing more. Nothing less.
When I fuel up my truck, I reset the lie-o-meter and it will almost ALWAYS tell me I'm getting 18 MPG for about the first 100 miles. By the time I'm down to about 1/10th of a fuel tank, it always reads between 12.5 and 13.6 MPG.
while simultaneously improving flow and cutting backpressure up to 47%."
And you don't call this claim wildly overblown?
Replacing a 3 1/2" wide open tail pipe with a 4" wide open tail pipe reduces backpressure 47%?
I would guess 0% is more like it...
Ah, the fine print 47% from the DPF filter back when compared to the stock pipe. Like you said George the damage has been done at the front of the system and there is only one way to fix that........
No noticeable difference could possibly occur unless you had some other mods, air box or tuner.

not when truck is idiling, only when at certain rpms can i notice a change usually around 20 to 30mph. nothing major. I hated the tip from the factory and went with banks because of there reputation with testing and warranty. I didnt buy it for reduced back pressure.
A lot of guys get on here and bash what people buy, if you dont want it dont buy it simple as that. Its kind of like installing bigger tires, in no way will they help your engine performance or fuel mileage but most of us put new ones on for looks!!! im not gonna bash a guys thread because he decided to put 37" tires on his truck rather than 35". We all just want a good looking truck!!

I agree 100%.
I drove along side a stock tip at 65 and it sounded like a crushed tail pipe, hissing along. Further inside the pipe, before the cooling fins in the tip, is another, bigger set of cooling fins blocking the flow more on the stock pipe. That has to add some back pressure.
Anyway, I'm with you. I will replace the DPF back $470.00 (crew cab price) tail pipe because I want to, for looks and a bit of sound difference. Even if it just eliminates the hiss. It's my money.
