6.4L Upgrades and Aftermarket - EngineUpgrading or adding OEM or aftermarket equipment to your 2008-Up Super Duty truck with 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 6.4L Power Stroke engine.
Update received and installed on 01-Sep-2009. Up to now the truck is behaving just perfect. Had a total of 5 shutdowns before the update, approximately once per month since I bought it. I am worried about loss the breaks while towing but really like the product, that’s why am still resisting to return it. I wish that this problem was finally solved.

I'm confused, the problem is solved with the new firmware update. Are you still having problems?
Thanks for the posting; I am accustomed to a BanksPower that is ever willing to help their customers. The truck is working great; I even think that something was enhanced because it performs even better than before. But my complaints were not related to its functional performance was related to its reliability and dependability.
I just posted what I feel at this moment. I have been using the Six Gun for around five (5) months with also five (5) counted shut-downs, and since the beginning were telling me that the wiring connections were the problem, but not. And that’s understandable, it is a new product and things happen. Now a new firmware update solved the problem and is nice to hear it but I have been using it for only two weeks. I can’t judge by myself that the problem was solved when enough time hasn’t been elapsed. I expended much time opening the hood looking for codes that never appeared, doing things to enhance the connections’ contacts that were fine, been at the expectance of another shut-down, and finally calling Banks to address the problem that I had. Please now understand me when I am telling that by now I wish that the problem was really solved. In a little more than a month I will post thankfully that this subject was really solved if so.

Well it's been a while since I posted and I thought I would let you guys know what has been happening . Currently I'm waiting to get a TRANSFER-FLOW INC. 98 GAL CROSS THE BED AUXILLARY FUEL TANK . It should be installed next week . Then I WILL BE REINSTALLING MY BANKS SIX-GUN DIESEL TUNER . To date , I have experienced no more problems with my truck . I have a real good field test for it coming up . The week of AUGUST 31ST , I've got to go to BOELING GREEN KENTUCKY , to pick up a DOBERMAN PUPPY . When I get back , I will post a complete debrief on the trip . I hope everyone had a good INDEPENENCE DAY . I refuse to comment on the state of our beloved nation politically as that is not the purpose of this website . BUT I WILL SAY " THANK GOD I'M DRIVING A FORD ". My best to everyone , and once again I'd LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE FOR ALL THE SUPPORT I GOT DURING A VERY STRESSFUL MECHANICAL TURNAROUND OF MY TRUCK . W5DVC.............OH MY.......the symbol police
WELL I JUST GOT BACK FROM BOWLING GREEN . EXPERIENCED NO PROBLEMS . BUT I DID NOTICE THAT I HAD 4 REGENS , 1 ON THE WAY THERE AND 3 COMING BACK . IS THIS AN INDICATION THAT MY DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER IS PLUGGING UP? W5DVC

My pickup regen's more when I am using the Bank's no matter what the setting even level 2. I know Bankspower says they will not produce more soot, even less, on any setting 4 and below. Maybe at full throttle but not regular driving. At least not mine. He also said all of the shutdowns were contributed to bad harnesses. I've had two shutdowns total in about 6 months. I just updated mine so I do not expect anymore. I knew my harness was OK. Now he finally admits they have a fix for a problem. I love my Banks and think it is a great product. There always can be probems with any product, especially software. Look how many flashes have come out for the 6.4. Banks has some good people there that will shoot straight with you . I just think you have to call Banks to get to those people.

I have fewer regens when empty I know that. While towing around 130 miles on level two . So I think when towing they are about the same but don't last as long. About 10-15 miles.

I have noticed the regens seem to be shorter with the Banks. I don't understand this but am glad it is shorter.

When will the six gun have CARB approval? Can't run it with out it in ca of it can be a $10,000 fine.
The state hasn't begun issuing any carb numbers on anything yet as they don't have the testing in place yet. It can't fail or pass a test that doesn't exist yet.

I'm beginning to think my regen's have nothing to do with the Banks. It has started doing a lot better. I got 415 miles on the last cycle. Maybe it's the fuel I have been using. I changed stations. Have had no issues since the update. Still like my Banks. I will just be glad when they start shipping the IQ.

Well - Not good news folks.
As those who have been following this thread for awhile know I had some major problems with my first Banks install. The good people at Banks took care of me and eventually I got the issues solved and things have been aced ever since.
Until today.
I started up the F350 and noticed it was running rough right away. The engine light came on almost immediately. It settled down and was running normal after a few seconds so I chalked it up to a ghost in the machine. Took off for home and about 1 mile into the trip it REALLY started running rough. I think it had actually gone into "Limp Home" mode.
Then the fire works really went off. The Banks PDA started giving the warning "BEEP!! BEEP!! BEEP!!!", so I checked the codes and about 8 different warning codes were going off. Everything from EGT valves, to Engine Coolant sensors, to you name it. I looked down at the dash to check to see if the engine really was over heating and the factory temp gauge was pegged all the way on HOT!!!!!
I grabbed some brakes so I could stop as quickly as possible and another warning light came on, this time on the trucks dash. "Check Breaking System!" What??!!! Sure enough the brakes started acting weird.
I pulled over and called my buddy the Ford mechanic from the dealership. I told him what was happening. he told me to check the engine collant to see if it was really boiling hot. It wasn't. In fact it wasn't really even hot. I had only gone about a mile afterall. Since he had already been through the Banks issues with me in the past he said, "Dude. Take that Banks stuff of, put it back to factory and tell me what happens." I did, and the truck ran perfectly normally. He said he thinks there is a short somewhere in the Banks gear that was tricking the engine into thinking all those sensors had suddenly gone bad. Once I removed the Banks equipment everything read correctly and thus no problems.
Mr. Banks Power - What do I do? Box it all up, send it back to Banks, let them test it and determine where the problem lies?
The bottom line with Banks for me is this, even after all the issues I have had with the product I still really want to keep it because when it works, which is most of the time, it really works! The truck runs like a top on the SixGun. But when your truck dies on the highway on a Sunday night, or won't start, or dies on you while driving, or throws every sensor in the book at you - you kind of get disheartened. I'm still a big fan of the people at Banks. They are all first class and have all treated me totally cool. No complaints about the people at all.
But I'm losing some hair over these issues.

Sorry about the luck, but glad you have found the issue right away. But here is my question. When we all were having the shutdowns it was determined that banks needed to update their firmware.
Did you ever have yours updated?
Mine has been flawless since the update.

Actually I have not heard about the firmware update you are referring to. Did Banks send out a notice to early purchasers to alert them of this update?
I am not sure my issue is even related to this, but it would have been nice to know about the update.
They (Jeff) actually posted that the update was available on this site as well as instructions for how to download and install. It does require the PDA in order to apply the update.
