Any possibility of an aftermarket exhaust brake being made for the 6.4L? My initial thoughts are doubtful. Especially with all the new emisions components on the exhaust system. The back pressure the exhuast brake causes would probably send all the sensors and PCM into overload. Haven't towed with my new 6.4L Auto, yet but sure loved the Exhaust Brake on my 7.3L 6 Speed. I've never towed with the TorqShift so I don't know how it handles down shifting ect. If it's anything like an Alison, I probably won't need an exhaust brake.
I'm pretty sure Dodge is offering them standard on all the 6.7L with their new 6 speed auto trans. At least all the one's I test drove had them. Sure would be a nice addition to the 6.4L PSD. What do you guys think?
from what i have read, and i don't prescribe to know much, the Dodge exhaust brake was a no brainer for them. Apperantily it was a part they were already using to do something else in the engine. Or it was easy cause of how the engine was built etc. i am sure there is someone smart on here that can expalin it.
my guess is that there will be sometihgn for the Ford. Now how well it will end up working...we will have to see.
i would love one, cause with big tires, my f350 doesn't slow as well as she should.

To add: 2 1/2T axles, 46" goodyears, etc.
My new 450 has a lot more "hold back" than my '06 F-350 did.

I do not think that a exhaust brake is needed with the automatic transmission. Have towed my 34' fifth wheel up and down 6 degree hills and have no problem holding the speed. Attended a Banks seminar last year and the instructor said that a exhaust brake was not needed with 6.0 diesel with the six speed automaitc transmission.
Don
well id love to see one and have one, cant ever stop quick enough but i think my 05 torqshift managed the 6%'s fine.

Question........ I watch the video on the test truck that ford did the one the towed 150,000 miles.. and the guy they interviewed stated when they were on the downward grade they simple shifted down to a lower gear that help the engine brake and hold back the load.... My question is does this truck have a kinda built in jake brake inside the motor.. or is it the gears that kept the truck and load under control.... (this is going to be my first F350 that I will own.... order about 3 weeks ago....... this is a learning cruve for me)
im not too sure on the 6.4 someone else will chime in but on the 6.0 using tow haul when it downshifts it would lock the tc and the turbo would assist in adding back pressure. im pretty sure the 6.4 is the same but dont know from experience.

I dont know the technical side of it. I do know that with 10k behind my 08 6.4l and the tow haul on let off the gas tap the brake and it downshifts and feels like exhuast brake on our semis. No idea if its just a downshift or more to it but it sure works good.

yeah my 6.4 auto does the same thing when im in tow haul. although id love an exhaust brake, i dont think it would be neccesary on the 6.4
