We're still testing it right now. Our engineering department is making some changes to it to make the brake much more agressive than then first gen units. We'll start beta testing them shortly and I'll keep you posted

I also just found out that, the first version anyway, will be a small add on module to the six gun making it extremely inexpensive.

It does require the PDA or the new display we're releasing in a couple of weeks. The first release MUST be used with the six gun, the second release will work on it's own

It will but it will be much more expensive doing it that way. As an example, using the chevy brake as the example,
brake+docking station+pda=@ $1357 (This is the stand alone CHEVY system)
+ six gun=@ $2055
Now using the first release brake which is an add on piece (this is JUST AN ESTIMATE as the final price hasn't been set yet on the brake)
Brake+docking station+pda+Six Gun=@ $1445

No it will not, part of the system controls the transmission. On a manual we wouldn't have that ability and the unit won't function

Speed brake has been installed

Ok, so the speed brake is installed.

First impressions.

Pretty cool. I have to get my trailer hooked up to really appreciate it but I did try the two different speed brake options (Speed Control and Brake On) to see how they work.

When I picked up my truck, they had already had it set on the Brake On mode. James had told me that they weren't quite happy with the braking on it as it wasn't as aggressive on the Ford as it was on the Chevy. So they are writing a flash for it which they will apply in the next week when they hook up the iQue.

So I'm leaving the shop, driving down the road headed home and the light turns yellow. No sooner then I let off the accelerator the Speed Brake kicks in, truck switches on Tow Haul mode, downshifts to 3rd and the PDA registers 100% braking. Good thing I didn't have a hot cup of coffee in my hand. Felt very aggressive, I can imagine driving around 50-55 down the road, letting off the pedal and having the rear tires lock as the brake activates. Mind you though, I wasn't hauling a trailer, just headed home at this time. So the trailer load would prevent any lockup.

I got a call from Jeff yesterday morning asking if I had ran it through it's paces or had any question's. Jeff recommended I try the Speed Control mode, set the speed for around 35 for the city and see how it act's. So today I switched to that setting and started heading down the road. For city driving, 35 might be a little low but it's easier to get used to as the brake doesn't appear as aggressive around that speed. If your driving down the road in a 45 zone for instance, it doesn't slow down as aggressively or so it appeared because the RPM difference between the current speed of 45 and the preset speed of 35. So it acts more like a controlled slow down rather then, whoa daddy. It kinda reminds me of downshifting a manual trans and using the engine to slow you down.

Still using the Speed Control, I increased the speed to 55 and got on the freeway. Cruising down the road at about 65 (according to the PDA) I was happy to find out that cruise control still works. A quick check of the Brake ON setting showed that cruise control works there too, but as soon as you tap the brake or hit Off then the Speed Brake kicks in and does it's thing.

So, I'm cruising along at 65 and start to hit a little traffic, let off on the pedal a little bit and just like a manual trans, it downshifts and moderates the turbo vanes to slow me down. If I let up on the pedal altogether it drops the speed even quicker by dropping to 3rd gear and nose diving quite a bit. But once you get used to it you can moderate the pedal just enough to get the slow down and make it act like a manual trans. If you moderate the pedal you can prevent the abrupt downshift to 3rd. Doesn't do any good though if your foot is hovering on the brake though.

Something I would like to see different. (Jeff, please give this idea to the programmers)

Maybe an option or button on the Speed Control screen that you can press that tells the Speed Brake your towing a trailer, On/Off. I'm thinking that in trailer Off mode it could switch to Tow-Haul and 4th gear and vary the turbo vanes until the current speed gets a little closer to the preset speed then downshift through the gears gradually rather then jump to 3rd gear right off the bat. This way it wouldn't do a 3rd gear downshift while traveling at 65+ and sending the RPMS to the high end of the gauge and possibly locking your rear wheels and throwing you and all your passengers against their seat belts. Would give the user more of a manual trans downshift feel which would be a great brake assist mode for everyday driving.

User Interface.

The control buttons for changing the settings and modes take a bit to figure out, and I've found myself hitting the wrong button on more then one occasion, again, this is with the PDA.

Obviously, with the iQue it should be much more user friendly, right now with the PDA, switching between the Six-Gun screen and the Speed Brake screen are cumbersome. You actually have to hit the Home button which exits one then tap the other program to launch it and see that display. Takes about 45+ seconds to exit one and launch the other because they don't stay resident in memory. Even longer if you try to do it while driving as the buttons are kinda small and depending on mounting location it could even be dangerous. I can only see this being easier and better with the iQue.

With the iQue it's supposed to all be on the same screen so you can play with Six-Gun settings and the Speed Brake settings all on the same screen.

Conclusion.

All in all, I can definitely see this being a bonus while hauling a load whether it's in the bed or towing a trailer. Once you set it up for your driving, you really won't need to do anything else as you travel on down the road.

The iQ will actually have all this already (see below). The iQ will let you set what mode your in (full on, speed control, and foot brake) as well as have all the controls on the same screen. You can switch between modes and the tuner control WITHOUT having to change screens or cycle through menues and you can change the set speed on the fly. For example (using the pic below) currently it's in "on" mode. The tab on the side with the big "H" is where you can change how agressive is is (low, med, high). At the bottom of the screen where it says "mode" and above that "on", you can touch the screen there and it will shift to "speed control" mode. The "H" will then change to the set speed, you can then go up or down in 1 or 5 mph increments on the fly. The little "foot" next to the brake graph is where you turn the foot brake on and off. I'll have an iQ for you next week

Jeff, cool, so the Foot mode is kinda what I described above like a trailer On/Off mode, making it act more like a manual trans downshift scenario?

I'm actually off this whole week housing hunting. So if you need my truck sooner, let me know. I go back to work on Monday the 2nd.
