I need some insight here.... I would love to install this kit i found in a diesel mag claiming huge mileage and hp gains buttttt of course warranty issues are the big drawback. The kit contained the sct tuner, sb cold air kit and dpf delete pipe. People were seeing 5 to as much as 10 mpg gain. Will this set up throw the check engine light to come on or make yo u have warranty issues? I am looking for mileage and perf gains for towing only. Mick you are a great source for the spartan tuner but this other set up sounds good. Also what is the smog issues with these trucks? Are they exempt until 2010? I guess my question is does anyone have this set-up with the delete pipe and live in california and are you happy with it? Does it make it illegal? I am just tired of 9 mpg on the average not towing. I was told that this kit could be removed easily and put back to stock if it had to go to go in for service to the dealer does this sound accurate? Any help would be great
ANY tuner will void your warranty. And they will know if one has been used as soon as they plug in their scanner to your OBD port. Not sure about CAI or exhaust mods.
According to the magnusson-moss warranty act, it is against federal law to void a warranty due to aftermarket accessories!!! They can NOT simply void your warranty!
However, they do NOT have to cover damage covered by unauthorized aftermarket accessories...so if you install a tuner and break your truck with it, it's on you.
That being said, if it's unrelated to your tuner they HAVE to cover it.

Dont go in to ford with the magnusson-moss in writing, they know about it, and it doesn't matter. They WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. It states right in your owners manual... read it. What's the difference in voiding a warranty and not paying for warranty repairs?
Damage Caused by Alteration or Modification
The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover any damage caused
by:
alterations or modifications of the vehicle, including the body, chassis,
or components, after the vehicle leaves the control of Ford Motor
Company
tampering with the vehicle, tampering with the emissions systems or
with the other parts that affect these systems (for example, but not
limited to exhaust and intake systems)
the installation or use of a non-Ford Motor Company part (other than
a certified emissions part) or any part (Ford or non-Ford) designed
for off-road use only installed after the vehicle leaves the control of
Ford Motor Company, if the installed part fails or causes a Ford part
to fail. Examples include, but are not limited to lift kits, oversized
tires, roll bars, cellular phones, alarm systems, automatic starting systems
and performance-enhancing powertrain components or software
and performance chips
Here are the ONLY things that can VOID a warranty:

For example, if you installed a DPF delete and a tuner, and then had a problem with your power door locks not working...they would HAVE to cover it, because there is no possible way your tuner and/or DPF delete could have caused the damage.
You can NOT void a warranty just by modifying the vehicle; you are simply liable for damage caused by such modifications. If you don't believe me, read it for yourself!
I would say though that it is against Federal Law specifically EPA laws to alter or modify approved EPA devices installed on vehicles. May be able to get away with the warranty, however, federal laws are different. Would not mess with anythijng that binds you by federal regulation. Sort of like dumping raw sewage in the water.....

Let me clarify this. If you add a tuner that changes the parameters of the engine as set by the factory, and it breaks, they will not warranty the engine. I have seen guys add tuners and chips and literally grenade the engine due to the added power. There was a pic somewhere once of engine pieces in tht oil pan that was removed. Nuff said
Someone i talked to regarding the dpf told me to dump that hundred pound piece of s--- and put the delete pipe on with the tuner Im not here to drag race or jump on the gas pedal because I want the mileage and the added power for towing. It would be hard to drag race a truck that has 37 inch tires anyway. Is there someone out there that has done this mod to their truck?
Very hard to laugh at federal law, especially once their account has been cleaned out by a good lawyer who doesn't see the humor.
What I said, as well as the MM warranty act, is that if the damage is caused by the aftermarket accessory, they will NOT cover that repair...it will NOT, however, void your warranty. I believe that if you do install a tuner and have engine failure for any reason, it would be very difficult, if not impossible to prove that it was NOT the tuner that did it...
The only point I was trying to make is that they cannot void a warranty due to aftermarket accessories...it's a federal law...
go to Ford Powerstroke Forum which is the same website that freekyFX4 said and talk to powerstroke67. (I think that is screen name) That guy sells dpf's and spartan tuners, he will be able to answer all your questions about the upgrade

Pull your head out of the sand man. I've seen complete warranties 100% voided out for simply having gauges installed. Ford doesn't mess around much anymore after all the $$ they've had to pay out in warranty claims on the 6.0's. Though I'm not disagreeing with the MM act, it's just the plain truth.
Why is this DPF/exhaust subject so taboo to talk about. People have been doing non EPA mods to vehicles since day one.Why all the fuss and waivers now.
Heck, the motorcycle shops install after market exhaust all the time, and they all say off road use on them. Nearly every Harley and sport bike in town is running non EPA exhaust???
