i have an edge evo and the dealer ship has never ever said anything about. But i always make sure they never see the truck with the evo on the truck, and i alway put it back to stock programming if i ever need to take it in.

Yup i brought my truck in for the first reflash way back about a year ago or so and i had the evo but i put it back to stock and they never said a word. I've also had my computer scanned on purpose by the dealer when they were only to fix a locking rod that fell off inside the door on the pass side. I was pretty upset that they just decided to scan my truck to see if their was anything wrong....that's what the dealer told me but i know they wanted to know if i was running a chip or anything and the good news they never found out about the evo. They told me everything checked out on the scan.

Is it possible that when they reflash the truck it would wipe that out?

Everyone is worried about the "detectability" of the device... this is worth mention in a few minutes... some guys wont like it.

Generally, I don't get too excited over the presence of evidence of a tuning device... but this depends on the nature of the concern and other factors. It is not my decision to admit or deny warranty coverage... I cannot do anything more than offer my observations and my judgement. If the owner is trying to hide stuff from me... alarm bells start ringing. This is bad.

On to Spartans bold statements... this P167F DTC... it isn't currently a documented code. I do plan on asking my resources at start of business Monday - but this may not prove a damned thing as I will be told "what I am told".

I have yet to retrieve a P167F from ANY truck... 6.4 or otherwise.... and I can assure you two things.

First... I have the correct dealer tool... and I keep these tools up to date vis-a-vis programming (by Thursday close of day, ALL our tools were at IDS 63.20 - means nothing to most of you but this is how we track our revision levels).

Second... I know damned well that if a programmer were to coin a P167F, I would have seen this code by now.... disclaimer... most of my guys use a feature known as OASIS Quick Start... Our scan tools are wirelessly connected to a server that can access OASIS on the corporate website. The VIN, any DTCs and an unknown amount of vehicle information are passed on to the server.

At this point, I must state that our tools only tell us those things that Ford wants our tools to tell US (us being the techs in the bay.... bear in mind they will start selling the 6.7 before they start sending us to school for it, so I am told). I have even been told by one reliable source that he wasn't sure why some PIDs (parameter identification data) were left as accessible since they wouldn't mean too much to us in the field. Knowing what some of these PIDs are and knowing that the information has proven useless when diagnosing concerns... what can I say?

However... now please read this to the end..... it may help you in the future... However, if we remember our history... particularly, a man call Alphonse Capone.... they couldn't get him on murder.... they couldn't get him on racketeering... they couldn't get him on defying prohibition (some of you may need to google that)... They got him on tax evasion... but they GOT him....

Imagine (far fetched? maybe... maybe not) for a moment... Imagine an owner in court... not for defeating an emissions device... not for filling my loving brides convertible full of soot... but for fraud.... attempting to conceal information to gain monetary compensation. The guy that fakes a back injury to receive workers compensation... but is later filmed playing tennis... is he a public hero?

In my position.... I expect people to be honest with me... after all - they expect ME to be honest with THEM.... If this is going to be a one way street, we can stop right here... it ain't going to go pretty from this spot.

Now that we are on even footing, the nature of your failure comes in to play...

Dumb stuff first... if you have a non-OEM type air filter (one of the "open weave" variety) and you have a dusted turbo or engine - I have to prove to Ford what part of the Ford system failed.

Hard stuff next.... it can be very difficult for us to ascribe a failure to a programmer of "sh!t happens" in so many cases.... but you guys leave tattletales in places you never consider. All the same, we aree still only the eyes and ears of the people that really make the decisions.

If you are chipped and have a drivability concern, I will have you disconnect but not remove the offending device. operate the vehcile for two weeks and then tell me if we still have a problem... I am not here to fix BullyDogs or Banks' failings... Unless you bring your credit card.

If you have a dealer that will void your warranty without due consideration... without deliberation... without even looking at what the concern is... avoid him... do not buy from him, do not visit him. This is your "voice" - use it as best you can. But to act fraudulently? Like I said... come into my store and lie to me.......

Any hints to the "tattletales" that we leave?

This doesn't raise a red flag? Spartan knows more than Grampy? I guess that's the assumption I would have to feel comfortable with before I made a purchase.

Melted rubber on the inside of the wheel wells. A stock truck wouldn't leave that much rubber.
