You definitely should have no issues at all with the intake or DPF Back Exhaust. I don't recommend this, but you could totally remove the air filter, with the MAF intact, and start the truck and have no smoke or issues whatsoever. You can remove the exhaust after the DPF and it should run fine. If you are seeing smoke, your DPF isn't doing it's job. It shouldn't let any smoke past the DPF.

My truck did the same thing yours did, exept when I put the stock filter in the truck kept smoking. 3000 miles later the dealer and I still dont know whats wrong.
