I just recently got mine as well and right out of the gate i threw it on extreme just to see what it was all about.. anyhow its deer season and i have been loaded w/ quad and gear off roading, mountain driving, highway, and city i havn't had any problems at all... I cant say much about the normal temps cause i unplugged the collector cause i didn't really like having it in from of me. The guy i bought it from said the only thing he recommends is that i take if off extreme and put it on performance when towing a trailer to keep the turbos from over heating.

The best thing to do is call RCD. Their tunes are alot better than the "can" tunes. My truck shifted fine on the tow tune, but like garbage on the performance tune. I won't even go into the power thing.

What is RCD and what is the alternative to the "can" tune?

this site doesn't allow you to talk about other companys ? never really understood that? anyway, a can tune is just a mediocre prebuilt tune from a manufacture like SCT.
RCD makes custom tunes which are better because they can tailor make them. The tunes will make more power, shift better (saves tranny life), and you can usually tow on the higher settings. Many guys tow with the Spartan 275 tune loaded. Naturally, you need to keep an eye on temps and not hammer the throttle like a race car when towing.

would the RCD custom tune really make a significant difference for me due to the fact that i have a manuel trans? and what kind of power difference are we talking about?

I don't think the manual trans matters - it's the horsepower and torque. I ran the SCT "Performance" tune until Brad could finish my 485 and get it emailed to me. The Performance Tune from SCT was probably comparable to the Banks Six Gun at Level 6 - quick. The first time I put my foot in it with the 485 after I got it loaded, the truck literally scared the crap out of me. I really didn't put the horsepower/torque numbers with the feeling I got. There is NO COMPARISON between the two - well worth the extra money IMO! DO IT!

I have been running on the SCT "extreme" tune and im really impressed at how quick the truck is, not to mention 23mpg... Are you saying that i could buy a custom tune from RCD that would give me even more HP/torque? And is the "485" tune your talking about a custom tune for the SCT tuner and something that i too could download?

I'm not sure if I had the "Extreme Tune" on mine or not but I still think you'll be shocked with the 485's power! It is a Custom Tune from RCD and you have to pay them for it, give them the "Strategy Numbers" (They'll explain that procedure to you) from your truck via the Livewire and then they'll write the tune for you and email it. Just be careful the first time you put your foot in it once it's loaded! Good Luck...
