high idle

So recently i have been starting my truck earlier in the morning to get it warmed up, and have noticed that it idles high around 1500 or more untill i press in the brake then it drops. Any suggestions on why?

If this is happening when you first start the truck, and it is below freezing (roughly), then it is the cold weather idle strategy. This means the truck is trying to warm itself up, and will idle higher. In a MN winter, this could happen for over 30 minutes, and the temperature gage will not move. I have searched and asked; there is no way to make this stop. Now, if you have been driving for a while, the engine is hot, and when you park it idles up, it propably means that you do not have the latest flash, as there should be no parked REGENs. I am anxiously awaiting weather below freezing...only going down to 35 here now...to see if what they said it would do holds true.

Sounds like Regen to me, as that runs in idle on earlier trucks and is stopped by depressing the brake pedal. I would go to the dealer and have the latest flash installed and while your there have the Venturi Tee kit fitted to avoid radiator issues. Both of these are free and the dealer has to carr them out.

Venturi code is:08B06
High idle/latest reflash code is:08B07

with the note that he is starting it for the first time, its not a regen, its the high idle mode for cold weather. My truck has the newest flash, and thus doesnt regen at idle, yet will idle up in the cold. It did this last year too. Infact, if you leave the truck sit and idle long enough in the cold, it will idle up again.

Didn't notice this was on initial start up- I need to read more carefully.

I have noticed this happening to my truck twice. I noticed it the other morning when it was in the 30's and one afternoon just after sun set when it was in the 40's but had been sitting all day in the parking lot. My truck is a job 1, and the only time it has been to the dealership was for oil changes and the 30,000 mile fluid changes, so I do not know if they flashed it with new programming or not. Also what is REGEN? This is my first diesel and I am still learning about it.

regen is the process by which your truck cleans its exhaust filter, do a search, its a pretty extensive topic

Correct... The cold weather idle strategy will idle the truck up and down as needed to keep the engine within ideal operating temperatures...

I just had both of these done along with my 30K service. Within 500mi the truck did 3 regens. Got the message on the dash. Prior to the reflash never saw the message. Is 3 in 500 mi normal??
