Intake systems

I'm new to this forum, but I'm trying to decide on the best air intake or at least one that seems to have the best balance of reliability and performance. I've read about the AFE and the S&B and the pros and cons with each. I was reading diesel power and saw an add for Injen. I have used injen for other applications and they are great but has anyone tried this intake system or know how it stacks up to all the others out there. Also, do we have a consensus on what everybody seems to have the best success with now, from reading past threads it seems that S&B is a favorite. Thoughts?

The best intake is the stock one. For perfomance and reliability it can't be beat. The only reason to get an aftermarket intake is if you have or have plans to get a larger turbo or injectors.

i have to disagree, stock pulling a small load (9k) it will pull the filter minder in all the way pulling hills, with no load you get on it it will pull it in half way, that is alot fo restriction in the stock intake, switched to S&B and pulling larger loads (15k) up the same hills and the filter minder doesnt budge, plus getting alittle better MPG .4-.5 or so. so for these trucks S&B cant be beat IMO

You must have a pretty dirty filter! I just towed with a GCVW of 35,500 with my F450 and the filter minder didn't budge. I was at full throttle and 3000 rpm for several long hills and if that won't do it, I don't know what will. BTW, I'm at 19,000 miles on the stock air filter . . .

i have put on an S&B and have noticed the same results .5-.6 also pulling larger loads has been better,

i had showed the dealership the filter system at first service and they are now offering it as a add on when somone purchaces or brings thier truck in for service. has not thrown ANY codes as well.

so it sounds like the favorite of Aftermarket Intakes/filters is S&B...that's kinda what I thought.

I must be missing something. How do you know if the filter minder is moving while you are driving? If you are pulling a load I would think you are in the cab rather than under the hood.

Does Edge Insight or similar display this info?

It is easy to watch the filter minder with optional under hood surveillance system. A good way to keep an eye on those horses. The Edge Insight does not offer any Insight for the filter minder, or any Insight on the price of diesel.

Because it locks into place, so you can check it visually, and you have to press a button to reset it . . . what use would it be if you had to watch it while pulling?

back on topic...has anyone tried the "injen" air intake systems for diesels? I would be curious to see how it stacks up against s&b and other favorites.

People like to repeat what they read and take it as gospel. The stock intake is NOT as good as the S&B unit. You will notice quicker spool-up as well as a slight mileage gains. We have never had a code issue with the S&B unit either. It is our top seller and what I ran on my personal truck.

Since you're a fellow DWYER, I'm going to believe you....

Any chance you've got special deals running for a S&B intake for a '08 F250 PSD?

Havent seen any comments on banks system. The add says 31% more air. I am thinking about the ram air by banks. Pulled my 14k 5th wheel from WV to CA, pulled some pretty big hills once into CA and filter minder never budged with stock filter(only 6k miles on truck). But thought about cold air intake to improve fuel economy. every little bit helps.

Has anyone tried a true flow XDI filter (True Flow XDI Air Intake System #20710)? Their product looks pretty good and would seem to pull a lot more air, plus the airbox is powercoated which I would think is more condusive to keeping the heat out. Have any of you guys had any experience with an intake kit like that?
