Looked to buy a 6.4@dealer with AFE intake- But chk engine Lt. was on?

Went to look @ a one owner 2008 6.4 with 25k miles on it and clean record. truck looked clean but had some mods and check engine light was on. The check light was explained as "it has not been through the shop yet/Ford dealer" but the mods make me look harder at the condition. Big Toyo MT's and tint are OK but the AFE intake makes me want to know more. Could the intake be the most likely cause of the light? Supposedly the sales guy did not know the source, and the service was closed when sitting down to the table so codes could not be pulled. Anyone know the code#s for the intake? just so they can be checked, because I don't trust the sales guy.
Is there any way to tell if there was a programer previously installed?

Should I be scared? or go ahead with trying to work a deal? they say it will be corrected before it leaves the lot.

My concerns are that it has been beat on for all of its 25k miles.
I need a truck to pull a tandem trailer almost every day, and if the truck does not run i can not get my equipment to the job to make $.

Currently have a 2001 7.3 with 180K and a growing maintenence bill

Have the svc dept show what the issue is with the ck light. And have them put the stock filter back on. I bet my 2 cents that is the cause, P2002 I think is the code it will show, pretty common for most aftermarket filters.

Cool Intake woes!

Looks like Senix beat me to it! That's what I get for typing long winded answers...

Generally speaking, you'll probably see a P2002 - it states something about the emissions control but it is the intake. I had an S&B on my truck and it kept throwing P2002 codes, around two or three per week. I took it off and they went away so I sent it back. I'm told they have since redesigned their input pipe to stop the codes. I then bought the Banks Ram Air intake and it too threw P2002 codes but about one every two weeks. Since I put my SCT tunre in, they are gone - with the tuner, you can tell the system it has an aftermarket intake and it ignores the flow/pressure difference. Regardless, the codes are a PITA but they won't hurt the truck.

No worries man, its the intake causing the codes. Either go back to stock or get the proper programmer to take care of them.
