I need help with a problem I'm experiencing. My Service Engine light has been triggered by the P2002 code. An AFE intake system [ProDry S Stage II Type Cx w/Torque Boost Tube] was installed Feb 08 @ 1,200 miles. Couple days ago, after 6 months and odometer @ 3,400 miles, my Service Engine light comes on - never before has it illuminated. I wonder why it took 6 months and 2,200 miles to finally trigger the P2002 code? My SCT programmer, also installed about the same timeframe, indicated both P2002 & P1000 codes. Spoke with SCT and they said replace intake with OEM until custom program made to allow for aftermarket mods since their Livewire programmer was designed for "stock trucks". Spoke with AFE and they said replace intake with OEM until their test mule completes testing of a replacement tube exiting airbox that repositions MAS and/or better duplicates factory tube in hopes of resolving P2002 code issues. This replacement tube, according to AFE, might be available next week, next month, or next year - Technician I spoke with was unable to give a time estimate. So, I was hoping to get a better answer or interim solution from this forum. Did anyone else experience this problem? If so, what did you do to fix it? Thank you in advance for any comments or suggestions!
I thought a few others would have experienced this same issue. According to both AFE and SCT, a number of customers have indicated similar problems. I was hoping somebody figured out an interim solution until either a custom tune was developed by SCT or AFE finishes there BETA testing of a replacement tube. Probably not that big of an issue or urgency now for aftermarket businesses since nobody is buying pickups and/or 6.4's anymore.....another effect of the high cost of diesel fuel slowing the world down.
Same exact situation happened to a customers truck on friday. AFE said anywhere from 2 weeks to a month, they would have a new tube out. I guess we will wait & see.....

I have the same intake from AFE. My truck throws a code (CEL) every now and again, maybe every few weeks or so. It stays on for a day or two, and then disappears. The code is DPF pressure sensor below threshold. I've just learned to live with it.

Thanks for responding to my HELP issue! I have been in communication with Steve (Tech Rep @ AFE) about this problem. It would be greatly appreciated if you could assist in keeping the heat on AFE (i.e. call him if you get a chance) to get this air intake tube replacement project complete and replacement sent to those of us in their minority category. My CEL has been extinguished now for the last 120 miles of driving; keeping my fingers crossed. The last time I cleared the CEL, it came back after 15 miles. I had sent Ford an email with a question about if their considering a DPF delete package and/or TSB (DPF delete pipe & PCM reflash) in lieu of the current gas price escalation and have not had a response yet. They're probably voiding out my warranty as I write this reply....
aFe 2nd Stage was my 1st mod. Then the code started, seemed like after a regen the light came on. Installed the booster tube, and it really didn't make no difference. Then came the Evolution. I was able to clear the codes as they popped up. I was living with it till pulling a trailer on a semi warm day. The light after a regen changed to about every 10 miles.
Off came the aFe, and went back to stock(no more codes). R&D @ aFe seemed to be to make a universal design box fit the 2008 Ford. You take the stock system off which gets 99% of the air from the outside, put on the aFe which now gets a mixture of outside cool air & hot inside air. Makes no sense to me to add engine heated air to the intake.
I have a Airaid filter on order. It's a direct replacement and fits the stock airbox. Was thinking of modding the stock airbox myself with PVC pipe and the aFe filter, but the filter doesn't fit inside the stock airbox, so the Airaid got ordered.
Making a cross country trip in a few short weeks, after that I'm thinking or pondering the thought of tossing the whole DPF system out. New Programmer and filter delete pipe.
Ford should offer that as a recall. They designed this nightmare when fuel prices were 1/2 or more of what they are now. Not many people can afford the loss of trading up for a pre-DPF vehicle.
Hey guys has this problem been fixed yet. I get this code eneryday. I can clear it but within a couple hrs its back again. Just wondering what to do about it.
Currently the following are your options:
1) Call Steve at AFE and ask what the latest update is to their "Fix the CEL" Project; he told me to expect more info on or about Aug 20th, 2008. Keep checking back with him and make sure AFE "knows" there are allot of people with the same problem. If we don't maintain the pressure to get this issue resolve, it won't ever be!
2) Return your intake back to stock and return the AFE intake to the place you purchased it; AFE will authorize this so they told me. AFE will also get the message to either fix this issue or loose customers who will respond to their lethargic behavior by selecting other products available.
3) Buy an S & B intake after returning the AFE intake; no reported CEL issues to date.
4) Do nothing and keep clearing the CEL.
Sorry to say these are your only options. Nobody else has responded with any suggestions or recommendations that would fix this problem once and for all. AFE is supposedly testing a prototype tube replacement that will more accurately place the MAS [Mass Air Sensor] according to OEM specs (don't know why they didn't do it right when designing this aftermarket unit). Another possible problem has to do with volume of air and flow rate triggering threshold miscompare with DPF sensor values. This might be a greater than 1 value, or better than 100% efficiency comparison. Translation -> you have placed an aftermarket air intake unit that is not being compensated for by the PCM; SCT programmed their Livewire based on a stock truck without changes to factory intake or exhaust. They have no plan to make programming versions to help the PCM make adjustment allowances to these aftermarket changes. You can go the DPF delete route, but that will cost you over $600 (DPF delete pipe $300 + DPF delete program $300 + sign and fax back a waiver excepting full responsibility for voided warranty).
I have run my AFE intake for about 8K miles.... with no issues. Now I'm getting a check engine light pretty regularly.... out of the blue. Could this possiably be from my air intake that has been working fine for 8K miles?

I've got the same problem. CEL comes and goes. Sometimes it is weeks before I get one, sometimes it the very next day. Would be nice to get the problem resolved...

My situation is much the same. I could drive 3-4,000 kms between the light coming on...its one for a day, maybe two...and then gone again. I've learned to live with it.

I have the same situation with an S&B comes on every 2-3K and goes away after 3 or 4 drives. I have learned to live with it; it definitely is coincides with a regen process.
are you guys seeing any difference with the aftermarket intake vs the stock unit? i'm thinking about the banks unit but want to hear what others are fealing befour i buy one.
