New Owner(day 1)/ Question

Hey guys I just bought me a '08 all black crew cab FX4.
It's my first truck, and I'm pretty much in love with it.
But let's get to my question
I was talking to a guy today who i generally find pretty knowledgeable (my tire guy) , and he was looking and my truck and he says , " They're nice, but you can't program them for much power."
He then went on to say that you can't add more than like 100hp with a programmer because the Head Gasket gets f-worded
I said this is the 6.4 I thought it was the 6.0 that had that problem, but he was adamant that these couldn't handle it.

So i want to just ask y'all guys which one us is right.

Thanks!

He's wrong. Check out Spartan tunes and SCT- they can you an easy 100bhp over stock.

What did you pay, if you don't mind me asking? I'm close to sealing a great deal for a job 3 FX4 F250 myself, also black.

Tell him to join this board and read up because right now he's full of BS.
You are right - with the 6.0 it's risky adding power and I won't do it with mine. My engine hasn't given me any trouble and I'd like to keep it that way. The 6.4 seems able to take a beating and put down great power.

I saw spartan putting down a 250hp tuner and I didn't think they'd done any work on the internals
I kinda argued with him, but he isn't really accepting of other people's knowledge.
Anyways I'm about to get it 'Line-Xed' and Tinted I was wondering how I could expect to pay for each of those.

Check out the Diesel Garage Forums or even go to Spartans website and read inside his own forums. I am running the 250 tune in mine and have had nothing bad to say about it. It is a race tune so naturally it does shift hard but you get used to it. Running around town and with a few short interstate trips at 75-80 mph I am averaging around 19.5-20 mpg. The way I burn fuel it will pay for itself in the fist 2 months. Call now and get it if you can.

JHB

Also glad to see you are a mac user.

I'm glad you came to this board, because your tire guy is a bit confused. You can tune the 6.4s plenty with no head gasket problems. The older 6.0s were vulnerable to head gasket failure. You may want to ask him what happens to the head gaskets, see if he can go any more in depth than "they get f'ed".

Tinting and bed liner can vary, it can depend on what type you are getting, how much prep the shop puts into it, and where you live.

Congrats on the new truck, I don't own a 6.4 but my father does and he has fallen in love with it. If my old 7.3 ever starts to show some age the 6.4 is probably next on my list.

The 6.4 heads have larger head bolts and more of them if I remember correctly reading that a while back on the 6.0 vs 6.4 differences. No known HG problems on the 6.4L yet. Just like everybody above, check out the crazy numbers Spartan is throwing down (589hp 1145 tq) on ALL STOCK internals, minus injectors. They even are debuting a 275hp tune soon, if not already!!!

Well thanks for assuring me guys.

Yeah i had researched on this board and seen what the spartan tuner was doing, and I was pretty sure they were stock internals.

I'm loving this so much better than my little rice rocket i had(yep... you heard me right)

Get the Spartan and you'll spank all of your rice rocket friends. The best part as you leave them in a black cloud of diesel smoke is when you look back in your mirror and they are trying to fan the smoke from out in front of their face. Watched one today on the way home from work. So far the only bad thing I have found is I'll be buying tires sooner.
