Power to weight tow limits

What determines the power level to weight ratio as far as what is safe and what isn't when it comes to towing?

I ask as my previous Ford had a larger program in it and towed more than what I'm towing now. Now I understand they are different trucks with differnt tunes.

It appears that different programmer manufactures are using different power levels as to what is safe for towing and what isn't.

I tow by the pyro guage. I like to stay at 1250 degrees or less regardless of programing, propane ect. Other than that you can use 4 low if you have trouble keeping it rolling along.

All of the tuner companies are a little vague on this since people all drive differently. With a heavy load,,you have to decide how fast you want to climb a long grade...I was nervous doing that with a stock truck...and even more so now. I have just installed an Edge Insight which gives accurate pre-turbo EGT's. I intend to watch it like a hawk when I tow. Clearly some of the " race" tunes are only suitable for 14 second 1/4 mile runs....would blow sky high pulling 16-17 K lbs up a long Colorado grade at full throttle!
