Which programmer to purchase?

Hey fella's!

First post here on TDS.

I'm a new owner of a 08 F250 King ranch...I've noticed a lot of lag in the truck and horrible gas milage, around 11.8 while driving 75. I drove roughly 700 miles recently and I've decided I want a programmer.

What are my options? I want good fuel economy but also want to be able to add torque and HP if I need to mash out. I want the best of the best systems. I've looked at the PMT but I keep hearing about Spartan and 250HP+ which I like the looks of that, but that must be horrible gas mileage

I've noticed Ford has come a long way and this truck in no way smells of diesel which is good, but I've also done some reading and this must be why the truck lags so much to keep emissions down.

My second question is are any of the programmers compatible with Straight veggie oil or no?

Thanks!

- Jared

Spartan in my opinion is the only way to go! Plenty of power with the 210, 250,or 275 tune. The DashDaq is an amazing instrument that can monitor almost anything you wish. My mileage has increased 3.7 from stock, but have to keep it around 2000 rpm. If I drive faster, economy drops like a rock. Check out their site and the forum.

Jared, belive it or not, but you're actually wrong about the Spartan getting worse mileage. Folks have gotten 4-6 mpg MORE with the tune. The key is that the main culprit in power robbing and diesel wasting gets removed. Can't talk about it on this site for some reason?

You can't talk about it here, because it's against Federal law to remove or tamper with an emissions device. Its not state by state or if you get tested / inspected or not - remove it, andyou're in violation of Federal law.

If you want a truck that is no longer legal to drive on a public street, road, or highway and will have no recourse to warranty repair, by all means, put a tuner on it & remove the DPF. Just remember, YOU did it, so any fines or repairs are on YOUR dime.

As to running straight VO in a common rail injection system, I sure as hell wouldn't with or with out tunes (and that includes blending, ATF, WMO or anything else that doesn't have the same specific gravity & visocosity as diesel fuel). Now biodiesel, on the other hand...just make sure its fresh & meets ASTM standards. If you make it yourself, be totally ANAL about your QC, wash & DRY it before use. Also, don't use any "conditioner" that has alcohol in it. Alcohol absorbs water, and any water that makes it to the injectors will flash into the most corrosive thing known to man - high pressure steam. Takes out injectors in very short order. Dyed diesel is also up to you. Just be aware the penelties for tax evasion & fraud can be steep (the government hates competition).

Its your truck, do what you want to with it.

Last time I checked Ford and EPA also consider the air filter and intake to be part of the emission system. The moderators don't seem to mind topics about that?
Anything from the air filter all the way to the DPF are NOT to be tampered with. Ever notice why any flow rate above threshold throws codes, of course you do. Every single aftermarket CAI throws codes because it wasn't meant to be tampered with. So why the double standard?
If you want to nit pick- CAI, ANY tuner, Aftermarket wheels & tires, Lights, etc.. can all void your warranty (specific to what each part effects).
