programmers

just got a new superduty with the 6.4 and it has a terrible delay when you smash the throttle. Was wondering if only certain programmers will get rid of the delay or will all programmers fix the problem.

Yeah not sure why this is. I've heard that Ford has done this to reduce the initial soot output to save the DPF. I have the Spartan system with the off road tune and my truck still delays some but not nearly as bad as factory programming. Spartan is a good way to go but I hear Banks is good as well if you want to keep your factory DPF in place.

Ford did this to give the Turbos time to spool up before giving the engine the fuel it needs for that throttle position. If the Fuel was dumped into the engine without the turbos being spooled up, you would just be wasting fuel but putting out plenty of smoke.

Many of the tuners take care of this, but only by removing that delay. You'll dump a bunch of fuel into the system which will give you the throttle response you want all but eliminating that delay, but you'll also be wasting fuel and generating lots of black smoke.

I agree there is too much delay on these trucks but i'm still not totally sure why. I have also driven both Dodge and Chevy and they don't have this delay. I would love to hear from someone that knows all the details. Now that I'm using Spartan its definitly better but its still there. I was hoping Spartan would remove all of it. One thing about it is with Spartan you have more power before the turbo hits and the turbo seems to hit a little quicker. This is why it feels faster off the line and is no longer an issue for me.

I am running the Banks and it has reduced the delay quite a bit. Hits much sooner than it did stock.

I just recently went with the Spartan/Dashdaq combo. I'm running the 150 onroad tune and its awesome. I've ran it mostly with my fifth wheel in tow and the turbo lag is gone. The truck runs and drives incredible. The Dashdaq is an amazing tool. There are 419 parameters that it'll monitor. Cool stuff. The folks at Spartan are great to work with and put out an awesome product.

Most tuners will help the lag out quite a bit actually. SCT, Spartan, and Banks all work really well.

Typically, they all make it firmer so that you have no trans slip. Soon as you get slippage, it can start happening more and more. So to prevent that, the higher the power the tuner makes, the firmer the shifting.

Haven't heard any complaints, so it's obviously not so harsh as to be scary or anything.

Try the Banks PDA with the 6 gun/or econo mind it works really well in my 06 F20. The lag time was dramatically reduced.

Specially if you increase the fuel delivery.

Try the Spartan 250+programs. It locks the converter real quick, and will devour most sports cars.
