Ok went with the sct on my 2008 6.4 looking for better MPG, I looked at spartan and the guy told me if I want to go with power then go with spartan. All i want is better mpg with a little bit of power, so he said save the money and go sct Is that an o.k. tuner for the truck or do I need to sent it back before it get here?
From everything I have read you have bought your first of 2 tuners, the 2nd one will be the Spartan. I hate being disappointed so I am saving some change to buy the Spartan myself.
I've been running an SCT Livewire from River City Diesel using their 485 Tune. The power is crazy - more than this old man needs but I'm not complaining. I just posted this on another diesel site:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've been running RCD's 485 tune for about 4 weeks now. I drove home from Danbury, CT Friday night and then up to Salem, NH this morning. I filled up in Salem, NH and stuffed 12.0 gallons in the truck - that's 233 miles. I did my math 3 or 4 times because I didn't believe it. I then turned on the GPS for the trip back home to make sure the speedometer/odometer was correct - it was dead on. That's 19.41 mpg driving at an average of 72 mph. The best the truck has ever seen was 12.5 - 13 (highway) with either the stock tune or the Banks Six Gun installed. I'd say that's a significant improvement. Crankin' out 485 rwhp and simply stop the re-gens - WOW! I'm headed back to CT tomorrow and I'll check it again to make sure it's not a fluke... I'll post next weekend when I get home.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bought the SCT because I didn't have the money to even think Spartan so don't get the wrong idea. They still appear to be the top pick for power and track times. Do what you can afford but don't second guess yourself on the SCT either. Hope this helps...

Thats my biggest worry is the MPG If the SCT can get my the MPG's thats what I need... Not looking to out run anyone. I just hear so much about the spartan and very little about the SCT. Thanks Jim for the post!
I'm fixin' to get the SCT from RCD. I don't care about the fancy read out DashDaq and alot of guys with Spartan aren't happy with the trans tune of the 275/310. The 485 driveablity seems to be great for a daily driver and it seems to get decent mpg's as well.
I used to have the SCT tuner on my 08 KR and it did ok w/ power but did nothing for my mpg, the most increase i saw was around .8 mpg, i now have the spartan and the most ive have seen is about 5mpg. The best ive seen is 17.6 hand calculated w/ spartan.
Not sure where Jus Cruisin is getting his information but I have over 35,000 miles running the 275 and I have zero transmission issues. My MPG running the 275 Version 3 is 20-21 running 70 MPH around the Atlanta area and 17-18 running between 75-80 MPH. To get the best Information I would suggest you visit the Spartan website. Maybe even send an e-mail to the tune writer.

The org and garage has more than a few posts with shifting issues especially with the 310 but many have piped up about the 275 too. So that is where I am getting my information.

doesn't the new TCM fix what was bugging some people?
I dont think the SCT tuner is a bad deal at all... In fact i think its Great!
I just put one on my 09 F-250 and have nothing but good things to say about it. The gains in hp/mpg are incredible! I have around 1000 miles with the new set up my mileage just went to 21.4 today. I may not have as much power as a guy with the spartan tuner, but i have plenty of power for whatever i want to do, and i still have a little left in my pocket...
Jus Cruisin I think if you read the post you'll find most people are complaining about the abruptness of the shifting and not them tearing up the Transmission itself. On the 310 tune yes but that is the nature of the tune. Especially since it is real a race tune and most people are finding that they can not use it for a daily driving tune. I have many miles on the 275 tune with no issues at all on my tranny I by no means is easy on it at all. I will run it until next August when I buy a new 2011 truck with the 6.7L in it.
