sct livewire and mpg

ok the sct was installed and running and i am not seeing any change in mileage at all. i have been using it on performance mode which does have nice power, but i am looking fo mpg increase. even with the "full kit" installed nothing has changed. should i use tow mode? or just trans only? there was a guy on here saying he got 23 and climbing. either this is a bad expensive joke or something just isn't right. please advise!!!!!

MRIGuy, what method are you using to measure your MPG?

well normally i would hand calculate... but i have not gone through a full tank of fuel yet so i am relying on the computer estimated mpg. it is still 11.2 around town. what bothers me is when i filled it up the computer read 327 miles until empty! so just for kicks and grins take the 327 and divided that by 30 gallons and its 11mpg. so since its breathing easier and now i switched from performance to tow tune i will see if that makes a difference. it just puzzles me. thanks for any advice or suggestions.

I'd recommend filling up with fuel all the way up the filler neck to where you can see fuel (not just foam). Then reset your tripometer before leaving the filling station. Then next time you fill up, fill up to the top again and take the Mileage on the tripometer and divide it by the # of Gallons you just put in. This seems to be the only precise way to measure the MPG.

The Lie-o-meter should give you a figure within 1-2 mpg of the true MPG, from what I've noticed.

As for the 327 until empty: The truck takes the MPG information from your past several tanks and calculates how far you have until empty. I think if you reset it (maybe by disconnecting the battery) it will read 425 or 475, I can't remember the exact default #.

ok the latest numbers in tow haul mode visible liquid fuel to visible liquid fuel. 325 miles and 24 gallons which comes out to 13.5 combined city and hwy. now i have reset the tuner to trans only and will do the same calculations. should have an answer in a week. it is still a far cry from the "claims" that people are making.

Cool River City Diesel tuned...

I've got the Livewire with RCD's 485 tune and the kit - I went from 12.5 combined to 16 combined. Now remember, if you're like any other guy on here, once you have the additional power, you have a difficult time keeping your foot out of it!

When I measured the 16, I purposely drove the truck gently for a full tank of fuel. I actually got 19 on a long highway trip at 65-70mph, but now I drive it the way I want, enjoy stomping it every now and then to surprise someone and I'm averaging 14 - 14.5 combined. That's realistic unless you baby it... I never ran it on the canned SCT tunes long enough to check.

I have a similiar situation as you, 9800lb travel trailer plus i load my Haley in the truck. If i run the SCT on tow mode what will happen, i saw they claim not to tow more than 6k...why?
Which trans setting did you use with tow mode? I have left mine on stock/soft, not sure if race/firm would be better?

Maybe a tune from someone would be better for my situation, i am not looking to throw down 1000hp.

i have tried both trans modes(soft and firm) soft is pretty stock firm is kinda cool. however i remember reading somewhere that if you tow more than 6000lbs you run the risk of a dpf failure. and " we are not responsible for dpf failures" well i know if you run performance or extreme you produce a lot more soot. therefore clogging your dpf. so my question was with the part not there to fail can you up your load? i don't see why not with nothing to fail what could go wrong? i mean i read about guys pulling much larger campers so i would not think they drop it back to the stock setting to get terrible fuel mileage and junky performance. right? anybody else pulling big campers have any input?

Our latest custom tune package definitely adds some mileage, above what the last revision had. The Xtreme Street produces the best, follow by the Xtreme Race. The Street has slightly less than both, due to less rail pressure.

well the numbers are in there is absolutely no difference in mileage pulling the camper. i pulled on hwy in tow mode with cruise on going 60-65 mph. 10 mpg. coming back 9.5 mpg with tow mode race shift. the only thing i do notice is better mileage hwy driving in performace mode with no load. i did get about 18-19 mpg. no doubt performance is better but i think i wasted my money. i do mostly around town driving and i really was hoping for better mileage towing. the only thing i have not changed is the air filter but i don' know anymore i think i wasted enought money. i think it is all hype!! good luck to you other guys that think it will make a difference. P.T. Barnum was right and it only cost me $650 bucks. tough lesson!

Aside from the increase in mpg, do you think your truck runs better with teh spartan? What tune on the SCT were you running, i run the tow tune on sct and get about 17.4mpg

I RAN THE HIGHEST HP TUNE I THINK 120 Hp. I had my truck dynoed with the Spartan and i got 501.32hp and 979.91tq on the 250 hp seting i di not want to go over 1500egt so i stooped at that no reason to brake the truck. so it still had more power i just did not want to risk braking it.

ok i have been running on xtreme this week and am seeing 15.7- 16 mpg on the computer around town. i will hand calculate on refill. they don't recomend towing in this tune. my question is why? i heard it hd to do with the exhaust temp. but if you use the tow/haul button when pulling and going down grades it shouldn't really matter right? on flat land just drive regular i would think. any suggestions or answers?
