I'm going to Amsoil any day now. I have 3000 ml on her after a hard tow of 500 ml's with long 7 & maybe 8 percent grades towing around 18,000 lbs in dusty conditions.
I have the oil sitting here and will analylize the engine oil to determine if it is too soon.
Will update.

GEEZ..... talk about a torture test!
I mainly am looking for the fuel mileage increase. If it will affect my fuel economy in the positive way.... I am going to do it.

I did not realize this was a 6.4 forum when I posted I have a 7.3
I switched to Delvac 1; 5W-40 @ 30,000 miles.
The # 1 reason was for easier starts in cold weather, the second was hoping for better fuel economy.
I normally change the oil 3 x @ year or every 4 months which would be 3000 to 5000 miles.
As diesel cost have gone up I have been using the truck much less and now I am doing the oil changes 2 x @ year and the last oil change had only 2700 miles on it so I switched back to old dino oil, for the summer months.
I feel my truck has always gave me good fuel economy the actual gain with Delvac1 is hard to measure and Mobil states there is a 6% gain.
My average for a 80 mile daily commute has been 18, and on a road trip of 1200 miles I averaged over 20
I have not seen a drop in fuel economy since I switched back to dino oil (Rotella T 15w-40 to be exact)
I have noticed the truck does use less fuel the past week when temps were up in the high 90's

Amsoil 5w-40 CJ-4
I had about 14,000 on the truck when I made the change (now 21,000).
I am going to take oil samples every 10,000 miles.
I also have a by-pass filter.
mileage change....not really.

When did AMSOIL have their oil certified to CJ-4?

Does the certification make you feel better?.You always come on here try to be a Know it all!
When the manufacture requires an oil that is CJ4 certified I think that it should. If you even go to the Amsoil site you will see for yourself that even they don't have a recommended for the 6.4 engine.

I put what is on the bottle, I did not say ANYTHING about certification. WOW!!! Don't use it if you think Amsoil is using mis information, or is not right for your truck. I was just trying to answer a question.
Sorry I guess you are a Diesel expert!!!
first oil change at 10,000 miles
Mobil Delvac 1 ESP; which is CJ rated synthetic.
The oil analysis on factory fill was fine with no red flags,
will change again at 20,000 miles with the Mobil Delvac 1 ESP.
If oil analysis comes back ok, (concerned about fuel dilution with these long changes) then I will continue with the synthetic.
No improvement to fuel economy that I can tell and I have records since purchased. Now have +17,000 miles on truck.
If the 20k change analysis comes back with any fuel dilution then I'll go to 5,000 mile changes with dino oil.

Please refer all questions to OMCUSNR
You know Ray, I'm no more an expert on diesel's than I am on Blackhawk copters, but I know how to read a manual, & I used to work SUBSAFE for the Navy. I'll use what the manual says.

for the cost of synthetic, for it to be beneficial to use for the purpose of fuel mileage, you would have to see a significant change, and run very extended intervals.

Sometimes it is not about the $$$$$ For me it the the protection.
In Aviation, the use of Synthetic has been around for decades. Why?? It stands up to heat MUCH better, and does not break down. My Turbine Engines can go over 700c. Flows well when VERY cold, and we don't change the oil very often, sometimes not for a couple years.
So for me the choice was easy.
Foot note...... The founder of Amsoil was a Fighter pilot.
