Upfitter switch general knowledge

I am going to pick up my 2010 F450 tomorrow. Not that I am going to do anything significant right now but is there a feed out to under the hood for these switches? Like a loom these are contained in and available to wire up whatever you want to run from uner the hood? Are they grounded already and you just plug in and viola, you have power to the device and toggle at the same time?

a comparison would be something as easy as pluging a wiring harness from a fifthwheel into the recepticle and you have power to the trailer.

Are there any plug ins under the dash and how accessible are they? Is this something better left for my own exploration or can a simple explanation be given here? maybe a bit of info so i will know what i am looking for.

if you care to take a shot...thanks.

Well what I definately know is that there are 4 pass thru wires that should be right above your master cylinder in your engine compartment that should be very visible, you can also find these pass thru wires under your dash in a bundle of capped off wires right on top of you parking brake.
Now what Im not too sure about is the wiring harness and the plug and play. From what i read last night there is a wiring harness in the engine compartment near the back but not too sure what it does. I was on the ford fleet body builder site all night and there was tons of good info and wiring diagrams, color codes, locations, good places to wire lights and what not. I just downloaded the whole book which is 390pgs but you dont have to do that there is a table of contents.

Here is the link, after reading my post i dont think i was really that helpfull but this place should be

Do the 2008's also have the bundle under the hood. I have used the ones in the cab but never heard of the ones in the engine compartment. The manual didn't mention it.

My 08 job3 had the wires under the hood. To use them I had to connect the switch wire to the passthough wire.

I did the same thing on my 08 one is hooked inside the cab to turn my review camera on whenever I choose. The other I hooked the upfitter power wire to a pass thru wire both are in the parkbrake area. Then caught the other end of the pass thru wire by the firewall on the drivers side and ran it to my box and used it to run some lights in the bed. Just hook the ground of whatever you want to run to the frame. Pretty simple. I think 2 of the switches are 10amp and 2 are 30amps but can't remember for sure.

you dont have to use those wires under the hood. There are wires ready to tie into right under your steering wheel. scroll down to see the picture for our trucks. the wires are kinda hard to find, but if you look around they can be found. https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/non-html/Q117.pdf

Did the kit come with the 3 screws needed to do the install? I got the Kit but no screws.

Hooking up one of those switches to the backup camera was something I wanted to do. How do you do that?
Thanks

Thanks, I'll dig under the dash and see what I can find. I was at the Ford dealer yesterday and the screws noted in the install directions are nowhere to be found in the US.

Okay, here's a stupid question. I want to hook up my air compressor for my train horns. I have the switches. I'll look for the wires tomorrow. But where should u hook up to? What happens if your cabs gotta come off? wiring to the inside means a disconnect right? See, to you it was stupid.

Where are you going to mount the compresser?

If outside under the truck bed, just put a connector in line with the wires. That way if the cab needs to come off, you just unplug the connector and lift away. There are connectors at Radio Shack that are called Molex connectors that will do the trick. Be sure to get the high current ones available.

I would use one of the 30 Amp lines from the relay pack controlled by the switches.
