Re: Seprentine belt - but what about the fan clutch wires?!

The second alternator is different than the primary. Different part numbers, and a different case.

Down low on the outboard side of the passenger side battery there should be a connector. The connector should have a green jumper wire in it. This is the connection for a second alternator. The parts list to convert to two alternators would probably go like this:

Second alternator
alternator bracket
ilder pulley and bracket
second tensioner
second belt
new primary belt - different length with the additional idler
alternator wiring harness
CAC tube
Fan shroud (bolted to engine)
idlers for second belt
harmonic balancer
PCM reprogram

If all the parts are in hand, it shouldn't be that big of a job. Probably a few hours...

Yesterday myself and a friend took on the task of replacing the serpentine belt and replacing an idler pulley. I have the single alternator set-up so we did the work without cutting the shroud or removing the shroud, but we did remove the plastic wing above the shroud. The whole process was no easy task, particularly putting the belt back on. I read most of the posts about this topic, but there is very little tips given for putting the belt back on. I was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks they used for the install? Where did you start at? Is it just that much easier to go ahead and remove the shroud?

Thanks,
John

i have a sound more like a deep chirp. i think it is the belt. it only happens at idle, if it comes up at all it goes away. does not do it when it is cold. i know this is tough without hearing it, but do you think it could be the belt. if not i am only left with internal motor
