17 mpg

Yes this is hand calculated. I left Georgia and drove through KY, OH and to Alpena, MI. I am wondering of the Cetane in the fuel sold in KY and MI is a higher. My average regen was 150 miles apart and now 300+ miles. The truck runs no different at all.

I did have the oil and fuel filters changed prior to the trip.

Thoughts - Comments?

17 is about what I get. Driving a little over 70 all highway not towing.

I'm in Michigan also.

I normally get 12-13 back home in GA. I have even been in South Georgia & Florida and thing the flat ground would help - nope. So it must be the fuel.

I normally get around 14 MPG. I took a 650 mile trip on Thursday and got around 17.8 MPG. I drove up to Transferflow to pick up an auxiliary tank. I then drove from Transferflow to San Jose and got around 17.4 MPG.

Before my trip, I changed out my fuel filters and my engine oil. And also had the dealership do TSB 08B07. I noticed even driving back from the dealership (70 miles one way) that my mileage had improved above and beyond the normal 14 MPG.

last weekend round trip from Md to Columbus GA. averaged 15.97 to include city driving for a couple of hundred miles. Grand total miles was 1700. Best MPG was 16.97 on the hwy.

That is running at speed thru the mountains on I 81. Pretty good considering my aerodynamic front bumper and the off road tires.

Overall, I drove 1500 miles this weekend. 17 MPG was the best I saw after I had the tank installed.

I have come to the conclusion that the fuel that is sold in the southeast US must have lower cetane levels and more additives for the results if inefficiency.

The cetane ratings will vary greatly from state to state and region to region. Here, people think 40 cetane is good! LOL! I used to get 45-50 cetane all the time in Blacksburg, VA....higher elevation and colder. This was for my old 1988 F250 7.3L IDI. It got much better mileage with fuel from there. it was the fuel, not the elevation that mattered. I would fill up both tanks and not touch the rear one until I was home. And that tank would get 2-3 mpg better than the local fuel while driving the same roads!
People notice this with gasoline, but not because of the octane, but the oxygenated fuel. I know more and more places are selling oxygenated fuel (maybe everywhere now?) and 10% ethanol. But if you fill up a gasser with the non-reformulated (non-oxygenated) fuel the vehicle gets better fuel mileage....on a consistant basis.
All this crap that is "better for the environment" gives us less mpg, so we use more fuel.....yeah, that's better somehow!?
Sorry for the rant at the end. I like trees, but I'm not going to hug one.....maybe cut it down and use it for wood, but not hug it!
