2008 F-450 Odometer

I have a 2008 F-450 CC 4X4. A little over a month old and 1700 miles on it. My odometer doesn't light up half the time . I don't know if it's the light switch , dimmer switch , ignition switch or a relay. I brought it in to the Ford Dealership this morning and it was working fine . Go figure. Does anyone have a handle on this yet?

Just to double check something.... are you driving with your parking or headlights on when this happens? I notice mine will brighten and dim depending on the ambient light. For example, if I have my lights on in the daytime and go under a tunnel for a couple of seconds, the odometer will dim and come back up after I get out of the tunnel. Same thing happens if a big thunderstorm cloud goes overhead.

Does your truck have the auto-headlight feature? If so, it will do this. If you have your dimmer dial set to too-low, headlights on, and in an ambient light level that can trick the "eye" for the auto headlights, I could see that it might appear to turn off and on.

Just a thought.

To answer your question , yes my headlights have the automatic setting , and yes this is the setting I habitually use , with the dimmer witch set to it's highest setting without turning on the overhead light . I just returned from Kinsel Ford in Beaumont , Texas , as soon as I started telling the shop manager my problem , he held up his hands and said he already knew what the problem was , they didn't even argue the point . They replaced the entire instrument cluster , ( PART # 10838A ) . The part they replaced it with was ( PART # 9C3Z 10849 DR ) and then they reconfigured ( whatever that means ) . They also had to reprogram my the chips in my ignition keys . W5DVC GO FIGURE!!!
