2009 F350 Shortbox to tall for 5th wheel camper

So my new truck is too tall for my trailer that already has the axles flipped. It was suggested I replace the 4" blocks on the truck with 2" blocks. Anyone done this? If so wher did you get the parts - any old ford parts center? I guess the other option

Will 2" do it?
That has been done with older trucks before...

Pretty sure 2" will do it. The alternative is to have the shackles cut and reattached to a 2-3" extention on the trailer.

I wouldn't raise the trailer any more. Higher CG and winds suck. Find someone to swap blocks with. Plenty of people want the taller blocks in their 250's, so it should cost you nothing IF you are comfortable reusing U-bolts.......So, uh, where are you located? I've been thinking about raising my 250 to 350 heights, but I need to check my roof clearance at my garage door!

10 years ago we had the same problem. Ford issued TSBs to fix the problem, but usually the result was vibration in the driveline that Ford couldn't fix. So the only TSB left is 99-14-5. That one mentions TSB 98-17-2 which was to remove the spacer blocks altogather. That should be a no-brainer because 4x2s don't have spacer blocks. But folks had vibration problems when they tried to completely remove the blocks from 4x4s, so Ford cancelled that TSB. Maybe you can find it in some ancient lists of old TSBs.

Click on the following link for TSB 99-14-5. Note it's a lot more complicated than it at first sounds. You must replace the blocks, U-bolts, shocks, brake hoses and stabilizer bar links. And you have to adjust - and may have to replace - the driveshaft center support bearing.

And the part numbers in that old TSB probably won't fit your newer truck, so use the TSB as a how-to guide but don't rely on the parts list.

TSB 99-14-5

Every suspension expert in the world says you must always replace u-bolts every time you remove them. So don't be an idiot that tries to get by cheap without replacing the old u-bolts.

What kind of 5er do you have? I am in the midst of trading my 08 f150 for a 08 f350 and I am afraid of the same thing. I had to take the blocks out of my 150 to fit

Yeah where are you located, I would happily swap blocks with you. My 5er is plenty tall for this.

I am agreeing that you should not raise 5er more than fliped axels. Are you to close at bed rails or at hitch point in which case there are several bolt on hitch options for both truck and 5er to rectifie the problem. I had a trailer with 31/2 inches between trailer and bed on level ground. Supriseingly I never had them touch.

BTW, I agree about repacing the U-bolts. However, plenty of add-a-leaf kits from major suspension lift companies have people reuse the old rear u-bolts all the time. If I were to reuse a u-bolt, it would be the rear ones, not the fronts (although we don't have front u-bolts now) Replacements are the better option.
