4X4 whine

Drove my new '08 F-350 SD SRW a distance this last weekend for the first time. While driving in slight snow, I used the 4-high mode (just to see if it worked) and all was well until I let off of the throttle. Upon doing so, I heard a whine very similar to that made by a differential going bad. Did this several times and each time the same whine was heard. Service manager said today he drove a new truck off of the lot and tried to replicate my noise, and did. His decision; the noise is normal based on that. Anyone have a simlilar experience or better explanation? Thanks.

Never drove a 08' but it's not unusual to hear a very slight whine type of noise in these trucks and most others as well when in 4x4. You can usually feel a slight difference as well. My 02' had more of a whine than my 06' does.

Mine does it when you are in 4x4 High, and you let off the accelerator to coast to a stop sign or whatever. As soon as the torque converter unlocks and the rpm's go to idle (gearbox is unloaded now and free-wheeling) you get a VERY noticeable whine.
