Air Conditioning Temperature

I have noticed during these past few global warming days in MN that my truck did not cool down as fast as normal. So yesterday after driving 35 min at highway speed, I pulled in my driveway, put the high idle on, and went to get my DVOM w/ thermometer. On MAX AC, fan speed 2, the driver's duct had a temperature of 50 deg F. Is it supposed to be this warm, or should it be closer to 40 deg F? Please let me know before I make another trip to the dealer. Thanks in advance. Oh, and I have a XLT which means manual climate control.

CMB430 Mines the same way. Took it to the dealer twice last year they said this was normal. Something about a compressor too small for the truck. I said they'd never be able to sell a truck in Texas with this type of AC. What is a DVOM. With the cooling season not yet started here (we had a frost this morning) I'd like to have a little more info for my next trip in to. Thanks !!

dvom = digital volt ohm meter. I have a Craftsman that does everything but say good morning to you. Comes in handy quite often.

As for the dealer's answer...that is interesting. Why would Ford and International put a compressor on an engine that is underpowered. You do not even notice the AC is on. In my other trucks with V6 engines, when the AC was on it was like I had a weight sled behind me. And I got really cold with it on high after a few minutes. My Malibu was warm when I got it from sitting on the lot for 2 years prior to purchase. GM said it was 1/4 lb low. They topped it off and it is nice and cold. I am not looking forward to July and August. After spending 30 months in the desert, I do not like to sweat in my truck to and from work.

I have a Lariat with the EATC (though this shouldn't matter). With it set on 60 D F (lowest it goes), fan on middle speed, recirc on and ac on (same as Max A/C). The temp was 39-40ish D F out of the center vent that's to the left of the radio. If I put fan speed on low, temp got 2 or so degrees colder, if I remember right. I last checked the temps back in August when I picked up the truck b/c I heard that there were some trucks from the factory (Job 1s) that had low freon so I just wanted to make sure mine wasn't one of them.

My Ranger and Grand Marquis do not have EATC (they have "manual" A/C) and they blow 38-39ish D F with the fan speed on low.

Sounds like the freon level could be the issue.

Mine was warm also

Went to the stealer 3 times! Finally realized that the head unit was shorted out and it caused the compressor to cut in and out. Even though you have a manual control it is still electronically operating the a/c system.
Go back to the dealer and tell them to inspect the electronics not just the charge. It is very frustrating when you pay over 40 grand for a vehicle and get piss poor service. The compressors are sufficient for these vehicles, if you do not get a good answer go to another dealer.

Mine too, I get 50 F when it's 80 out and it goes hotter (60+) when ambient temps rise from there. I took it to the dealer on a 50 degree day and they said the 45 degrees they got was "normal"

I took it in the other day at 83 OAT and let the service writer look at my thermometer reading 52, just so they would believe me. Not to worry though, my A/C died COMPLETELY 1 hour later, perhaps they'll recharge it this time. I have read posts last year that some trucks came with insufficient charge from the factory and then when topped up the A/C goes back to COLD where it should have been all along. It took my truck at least 30-40 minutes to cool to a comfortable level if the OAT is above 90 degrees. Luckily I live near Seattle where that isn't TOO common.

I called over lunch and scheduled an appointment for Friday morning at 0700. I move this weekend to a new apartment and go away on business next week, so I want the truck's cab to be cool. This dealer is in Shakopee, MN and treats me pretty good. On Friday I went in to get the spare rubber put on the drive wheel. They forgot to rotate the tires before saying they were done, so they took it and did it for free. Supposed to be a $60 service, only cost me $30.

For those of you with the automatic climate control have you seen this?

2008 F-SuperDuty slow A/C cooling, dual temperature control:
Some trucks built before 6-28-08 with dual electronice temperature control may seem to cool too slowly. There is a calibration being developed to correct this concern. In the interem, switch the DATC from the AUTO mode and press the mode button until the panel vent icon is illuminated to divert all cooled air to the vents. If addition cooling is desired, select the recirculate button. Broadcast Message 0313.

This may help some of you.

Shawn

Thanks Shawn, mine fits that description. News also just came back a few minutes ago that my A/C compressor failed.
