Airbags with hitch

Hey guys,

I've posted this question in the past but haven't received a response that I can use. I thought pictures might help this time.

I have an 18k underbed 5th wheel hitch installed in the truck. I want to add airbags. The problem is the hole in the frame that the bag bolts up through is covered by the mounting plate from the hich. I have been told by Reese that I should not drill through the mounting bracket. I have been told by Firestone that there is no problem in doing so. One thing I do notice is that there is a 1/2" gap between the hitch bracket and the truck frame. I wonder if the bolt used to mount the bags would fit in this gap without having to punch a hole in the bracket. I was hoping someone here had a similar setup and could over some advice.

I just replaced the bolt through the frame/hitch, with the longer bolt that came with the firestone airbag kit. The bolt I replaced already had a 1/2 inch spacer between the frame and hitch, just reuse it. I have a B&W turnover ball. My airbags mount inside the frame.

I'll have to look at the mounting bracket for the bags a little closer. I was under the impression that the hole in the frame for the bags was actually to the left of the right hand bolt in the above picture. If you look between the tire and the frame you will see a small piece of the bump stop. Is that not about where the hole to use in the frame should be?

Just a follow-up. I installed the airbags yesterday and all went very well. Took a lot longer than I thought I would but in the end I'm happy. In fact, I would say at 15 lbs running empty the ride quality is better than stock.

I do have one last, quick question. Is there any way to remove the air nipple from the hose after it has been attached? I've re-run the air line a little better and now have 8" slack I'd like to cut off, but, have no idea how to remove the end.
